On current ranking they may well be better than others. It is important that they should remain top consistently over a period of time. Sachin has hardly been on top ten test rating is last five years.

I guess every individual is allowed to come up with his/her opinion, but I would have to disagree when individuals come up with the theory of labelling players as unsuccessful because of thier down/rough periods!

PORT-OF-SPAIN: Three days after ridiculing the Indian cricket team’s performance in recent years, Australian skipper Ricky Ponting opened the floodgates of admiration for Sachin Tendulkar, rating him above Brian Lara as the best batsman among his contemporaries.

Comparing the two, Ponting said Lara could be more destructive on but Tendulkar scores above the Windies skipper in technique and is the most complete batsman he has seen.

“West Indian Lara and Indian Tendulkar are the two best batsmen I have played against. I have rated Sachin slightly ahead because technically I thought he was a bit tighter, but Lara on his day is probably more damaging,” Ponting wrote in his column for an Australian paper.

Tendulkar had the best technique and performed well in all conditions, Ponting said. “He is the most complete batsman I have seen. His technique is so good and he has played well in all conditions. To have 41 one-day international tons shows what an appetite he has for scoring runs.”

As for Lara, Ponting wrote, “Everyone can see his class, but he is also tough. When the West Indies have been down and out, he has stood up. And he has had to do it all himself a lot of the time.”

While Lara mixes with the Australians, Ponting said he had rarely spoken to Tendulkar outside the cricket arena. “The Indians tend to keep to themselves and don’t hang around very long after play. It is amazing how he has to live his life because of his popularity at home. We have heard stories of him having to do his grocery shopping at 3 a.m.”

What abt the number of years that Tendulkar had carried the burden on his own shoulders? What about his performances in the WC of 96,99 and 03? What about all the hundreds that he's scored? What about the pressure that he carries and has been carrying for the past 18 years? Ever thought abt it? You might hate india but you can't try to preach us about lara's greatness. Sachin is GOD, no arguments or complaints! He's the greatest among all.

And his world cup record. It is good no doubt. But scrutinize over half the runs have come against minnows with the average well over 100. 3 of the four centuries in the world cup has come agaisnt poor side. Imgine how the not outs innings like 140* and 127* against kenya and 151 against namibia would bloat his average.When his team needed the most he let hsi team down. Be it against the crutial match against australia in 1999 (due to which India fail to qualify for semis) or the final in 2003. When it matters most in the knock out he has never been good. Well the fact is he has failed when it matters the most. What is his record in last 10-12 finals. The average is about 20 in a very low average. . Even in this world cup Endulkar scored 57* against bermuda but failed against Srilanka when it mattered the most.


Ask any neutral (who isnt any Endulkar or lara fan ) you will get the true answer.

Hey Bidhan I can name millions of people who can say that Tendulkar is the best they have ever seen. Now that will not prove him the best will it? People can say what they want but every one knows that Sachin with no doubt is the best batsman of our time. He has a record to prove it. He started his career at 14 and still going good at 33. If by giving quote of many people about Sachin you think you can prove that he is not the best than you are not fooling others but yourself bro. You don’t have to like India to like Sachin. I personally don’t like Pakistan but I think Imran Khan and Washim Akram were the best allrounder. If you love the gave you gotta give respect to your oppenent too.
