My matured & responsible Sajha People. Please post some Nepali names for a Daughter, as soon as you can. I recommended fews names but she -Mrs K. - said "old fasioned". I wondered- wau- that was my inner response for the time. But need to find one, I am't very sure what are the "modern nepali names". Help me out. Thank you.

Nirman , LA you are good in recalling names. Actually, when I was in NIMNA MADHYAMIK VIDYALAYA, our class used to have LADIES having those names - DIL MAYA, PHOOL KUMARI- But not RAM PYARI since such names were found in TERAI regions, and I used to go there at times but was not grew up. But hey thanks for the input.

What does Zeenat mean?
I always liked that name. The zzz sound. It would be hard for us Nepali to pronounce though.
(I wanted to give that name to my daughter, but I don't know now why I did not)

BTW why do Americans like the name 'Maya' so much?

My favourite name for a duaghter is Lali, short for Laligurans.
In my case, I'm too young to get married, but if i were to have a daughter, which i actually would prefer, I'd name her Sheila. Because Sheila is not only a nepali name, but also Western.

It's good to see you emerging with a question this time.I will try my best to answer that with my limited nomenclature knowledge.Maya,Uma,Dharma to name a few westerners have it seems embraced some of the names from the east.Did you have Maya Angelou in mind while writing that?Because thats the only name that clicks me so far.
My guess is the recent popularity of eastern philosophy/mysticism in America had played role in that.The entrance of yoga and meditation in the mainstream popular culture makes these words common among the enthusiasts.And ofcourse maya has a good meaning as well.Illusion..but we use "Maya-jaal" more commonly...my guess...

Hmm..what about some "sweet" names, such as Rasbari, Lakhamari, Barfi, Jeri, Khajuri?

You may choose Khursani if you want to go to the other extreme :)

Seriously though, I personally prefer some thet and unique Nepali sounding name that is not very long.

Himal/pahad haru ko naam bata, jastai Pumori (my favorite), Manaslu

Nadi haru ko naam jastai Rapti, Koshi, Bheri, Karnali

I know someone who named his daughter Simma (means kanchi in Rai bhasa, he is not a Rai though) which sounds pretty sweet as well.

I gave up hera. SAMOSHA hee, Ok. Let's say my SISTER who will be due with in 2 moths get that name. and after about 15 yrs, she would come to me and say DADA- or BRODA - or U. DAI - why did u choose that name, didn't u find any betters? She would continue "my fr say, they are hungry whenever they see me" " they tease me". I would be tired of her every day complains, then I would say, SISTER..baini..It was not me it was palpali dai, who told me to do so. So I did. My fired sister would say: Let's go to PALPA...OH MANN..Going Palpa from LAMJUNG. Another story, but why I would ask. She would say, PALPALI DAI sanga ROUND TABLE TALK garnu chha she would say. I would tell her, he is not in palpa this time sister, but in NEW YORK. she would say " no my soul is saying he is in palpa at the moment" May be you would be there.
