Former govt secy commits suicide

KATHMANDU, June 9 - Dinesh Chandra Pyakurel, a former government secretary and former director of Melamchi Water Supply Project, committed suicide Thursday morning, police said.
Sources said his name was going to feature in a charge sheet being brought out by the Royal Commission for Corruption Control this Friday.

After Feb. 1, Pyakurel had been put in the reserve pool. (yv)

Weather he was corrupt or not, There should be an independent court that should adjudicate the allegations with all the due process. Not the royal court which finds people guilty on its caprice.

1. His delicately maintained self esteem (individual pride) was harmed to such a degree that he was motivated for self harm. (Or rather chose not to self disclose all the ill gotten money.)

2. Feeling of hopelessness with the current developments and political scenario.

3. He saw no free and fare judicial system that would take care of his (false) allegations.
Pessimisms about long imprisonments, malicious behaviors by the neighbors could have been the variables despite his innocence.

Taking own life does not seem to be that easy. (i have not tried though). One needs to be very strong to kill himself, contrary to people who say they are cowards who committ suicide and religously, may end up straight in hell.

I dont want to prove him either guilty or innocence. Looking at his picture I doubt he led a frugal and compromised life. Cant derive any conclusions though.

Isn't Sichai Bibhag and Sadak Bibhag very lucrative offices for Govt employed Engrs?

Sucidal case to me is permanent solution for temporary problem. Untill and unless he doesn't have family or any other such problem, it is rediculous to hear that a person like him sucide. He is well mature and knows in and out of life. Govt. secetory for so many years could have taught him well regarding life.

Though we can not justify whether he is guilty or not but having seen his background, he might be afraid regarding possible charge to him. Otherwise there is no reason why he should sucide............not a good example for society anyway.

there is some weight in newuser's speculation. In a country where more half of the population have a neutrition problem the correlation between fatness and corruption is obvious. Damn, this might be a good research topic.

Corruption in Nepal is the root of all evil, now it is so entangled that it is pointless to talk about uprooting it overnight I think it should be regulated, and tapered to eliminate it. Now, whether we beign the tapering bottoms-up or trickel down is again a subject of another debate.
I agree with Newuser, if he was having quilt sensation to the level of commiting sucide, he could have atleast left behind the fine details of the scandal, people involved and those who are clean. That would have made him great in everyone's eye, not now having chosen self elimination.

His son Ritesh Pyakurel was my most closet friend in School. My heartiest condolence to Dinesh Pyakurel. I am wandering what is going through Ritesh right now at a sudden demise of his father. Please update with more information how and why this incident happened.

committed suicide. :-)

Clearly you have not learned proper values. It is such violent thoughts that destroy the country. You should be ashamed of yourself. You should never advocate suicide, never. You secularists are always advocating violence and death like KG and BB.

This is a very fine example of "power hungry" people who would resort to kill themselves(sucide) for the lust of power then why would they have any problem killing others as well ?

Leaders like Girija, Govindae, Kmumae, Chirinjivi Wagle should have committed sucide a very long time ago....even if they dont committ sucide the Maoists and Gyane should work together to take care of the business of getting rid of them.
