Here is the list of ?most see? movies that might make you .....(can't say). Although these movies are low budget movies but they are based on true story. And of course true story movies are always great.
1. Welcome to Sarajevo: - A true story about a British reporter who struggles to adopt an orphan whose parents are believed to be killed in the civil war in Sarajevo.
2. Radio: - this movie is about a mentally retarded guy who later becomes the football coach of a high school in South Carolina.
3. Miracle: - this is a true story of ice hockey team; how American college team beat the super power USSR in 19... Olympic Game. This movie also tries to focus on politics in Olympic game in the time of cold war with USSR.

good topic!

yeah, i am sam....anything with sean penn is fantastic! he's amazing. and whoever said the scene in love actually where the guy confesses his feelings to his best friend's wife with those cards- that scene is brilliant! and then she goes up to him and gives him a little kiss and he says "enough." d@mn, i love that scene!

whale rider was also great. zhang yimou's the road home is also a really sweet movie. cold mountain too. but the movie that has devastated me more than any other- "dancer in the dark" with bjork. that movie will rip your heart out and leave you gasping for breath. intense!

palpali gaunle..

If you are a Zhang Yimou fan like me, Not One Less is his best movie. The last scene where the teacher goes to the city to find her student.. I was quite impressed.

The Road Home (wo de fuqin muqin) is also a good movie. Brilliant photography.

You might also like to see:

1. In the heat of the sun (about 3 red guards during the Cultural Revolution.. They meet again in the late 90s.. The movie shows their experience and what they learned from the red guard experience).

2. Spring time in a small town: A very good movie.

3. Chungking express (wang kar-wai): Nobody makes movies like Wnag does. Chungking express is probably his best movie. In my opinion, its better than In The Mood For Love.

hey iso-freak, thanks for the recommendations. i'll look into those.

i did also enjoy not one less. the scenes where the teacher goes on the news to find the boy and also when the school gets the colored chalk at the end were really touching! but the road home- and also to live- are my favorite yimou films. have you seen his new one, the house of flying daggers? very beautiful, but so radically different from his earlier movies (well, except for hero, of course....)

To Live is a classic! Chutecha.. thanks for reminding me. Gong Li is brilliant in that movie. 30 eyars of Chinese history in less than 3 hrs.

The House of the Flying Daggers..Zhang didn't make it for China. He made it for Hollywood.

The Road Home is a good movie.. but compared to other Zhang movies, its alright. I won't give it a 5 star rating. Don't get me wrong, it has everything you expect in a Zhang movie- brilliant photography, a good story line, great actors and all that... The most impressive scene in that movie is when the mom is telling the story.. and slowly black and white starts to fade.. replacing it with vivid colors of a Chinese countryside and you see this close up of youg Zhang Ziyi in her colorful clothes.. that's just brilliant.

Yiou might alos be interested in the Golden Bear winner at the Cannes: Farewell my Conccubine by Chen Kaige. Its a long movie but worth it.

This Christmas anther big movie will be released- Memoirs of a Geisha, with Zhang Ziyi playing the Geisha girl.

But this lacks something. You enjoy while you are watching it but it failes to leave you a lasting impression like The Red Shorghum, To Live or Ju Dou or even The Story of Qiu Jiu. I became a fan of the Fifth generation Chinese movies for their symbolism.. the symbolism, which made Zhang, Chen, Hong famous is missing in this movie or is too obvious. That's the reason, I don't give this movie a very high rating.. but, afno afno bichar ho. kaslai k , kaslai k maan parcha , hoina ta?:-)

baru try some Japanese movies too. Kurawasa made some good movies.

Here are some of my.............. movies
------------------------------------------------

"Good Will Hunting"_____The most favourite movie of mine of all times. An emotional struggle waged by a young genius Will Hunting (Matt Damon) with himself from the deep scars of deeply grey and sad childhood into an adulthood by the help of a university professor Sean Maguire (Robin Williams). Other casts include: Ben Affleck, Stellan Skarsgard, Minnie Driver

i love the scenes in the road home that have zhang ziyi running through the countryside, and especially with her bright clothes! the whole story is just so sweet and innocent and i love when he goes to say goodbye to her the first time and gives her the clip for her hair. that's really the only interaction the two characters have in the entire movie that lasts more than a few seconds. the music is also so crucial to how beautiful the overall effect of the movie is.

i still have yet to see red sorghum and i was somewhat disappointed with ju dou. gong li is fantastic, as is zhang ziyi. hmmmm....zhang ziyi as a geisha?! ma ta herna janchhu ni!
