This is definitely good news. However there is another Nepali scientist in NASA, California. So this family's claim that Bhatta is the first Nepali scientist is not true.

I had heard that there are around 4-5 Nepalese (or Nepali origin) and 100s Indians. If Rajendra is first to enter into NASA, it's good to know about this news. Nationals from around the world are trying to become first in space/moon from their respective country and we have headline of "First Nepali in NASA". BTW, Does NASA hire scientists with F-1, H-1 status? I think all federal agencies hire only permanent residents and citizens.

Federal agencies don't even bother to hire permanent residents, just forget about H-1 and F-1. They do intensive background check (need security level clearences and security level depends upon the level of job)and has to have citizenship. It's so lame.

Company/Institute को बिल्ला भिरेर हैन.

I already know a guy who used to work for NASA as a scientist and he is not listed in any of discussion above. I don't think NASA Or it's contractor would hire a F-1 student as mentioned above. And its not time for H1B too. Anyway , Good Luck.

After scanning through the news and comments, I even hated to congratulate this Mr. Bhatta for his new job position. It is ridiculous to find someone claiming "the First Nepalese Scientist in NASA" and going for big publicity. NASA is a big organization where many Nepalese have worked since early 70s and are currently working. I know Dr. Karki, Dr. Shrestha and Dr. Jha who have worked there leading various research projects. People living around DC suburb know them well. Man, this guy has just finished his masters, got some technical calibration job and claiming himself a scientist !!!! WTF. Getting a tenured position in NASA requires him to be a PR. If he entered US in F1 visa and just finished his course then it is impossible for him to be employed as a core-staff of NASA CREW unless he wins a DV lottery. His qualification and immigration status just allow him to be hired in a temporary position (with LTE permission to be renewed in every 2 months). This is nothing big. Many students and people in exchange programs do this every year. There are 100s of Nepalese phd students, postdocs and research scholars working for NASA projects, within NASA centers, NASA’s wing research organizations, Universities and other research institutes who are true NASA scientists. Getting a technical job does not make him a scientist. As Vname bro said - हैन यो नेपालीहरुलाइ के मन लाग्ने हो ? I have met a few Nepalese who claim they are first settler in NY, DC etc. When I ask them when did they come to USA, they say “around 65 – 70”. I believe this is exaggerated one. Yet, I know someone from Nepal who came to USA in 1958 and he told me that there were 3-4 other Nepalese before him to cross Atlantic. Publicity has become a business. There are so many Nepalese who have achieved a lot in their professional career but there are only few who have enjoyed paid publicity. Unfortunately Nepalese general mass is still not aware of this and they tend to believe what ekantipur/gorkhapatra writes is the only truth. If you have someone close to you working in media, you get free publicity. I suppose, this guy has someone working in Kantipur and put this information as big news without knowing anything about other people who are holding important position at the edge. This is classic example of

It boggles my mind at this day and age with access to educational and professional opportunities globally that one would think that he/she is the first to accomplish anything. It is sad these people need to brag and beat their own drums ( did I say this right?). I suppose this is one of those cases where ................. Now if it was back in the days when I first landed on this country, I would have believed that person that if he/she is the first person to be in that particular industry. But now???? Come on people....Nepalese are everywhere, working in all different industries in all levels. Nepalese have found success in all industries and the reason we dont hear bout these people majority of time is coz they don't have anybody doing the PR work for them. For example... look at Mr Kul Chandra Gautam. Has any of you met or heard him speak? OMG he is the one of the most humble and nicest human beings I have met considering he holds one of the most prestigious postions that even an American (even white man) envies. If we are determined and relentlessly work hard, we can find success in anything we do. Again this brings to my mind some of the famous quotations MLK made........................... - All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence. - An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity. - The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. - Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will.
peace....
