Hello Friends, We did our best to make Prashant Tamang an 'Indian Idol'. We knew that he would be 'Indian Idol' and not 'Nepali Idol' but still we helped him. We voted for him simply because he belonged to Nepali/Gorkha/Gurkha Community of Darjeeling, and spoke same language like us. Now, with the introduction of New Leader Prashant, it seems that the "Gorkhaland Movement" is again gaining momentum. I think this is the right time we should also raise our voices to make a "Gorkhaland"-A seperate Nepali State in India. I do not know how many people in this sajha are from India- from Darjeeling or Nepalese speaking people residing in any parts of India. N the people who are not from India, I do not know how many really cares and know about what is Gorkhaland. I tell you something here. "Gorkhaland" is the demand of many Nepalese in hilly areas of Darjeeling who want respect, dignity and not always the tag of "sabji" and "chaukidar". These people are fighting to vindicate their rights that they are also the people of India and have right to self-determination to have a seperate State in India. The hills are burning for more than a decade. Subhas Ghising was the leader of all there and all rested their hope on him but it seems to me that He has betrayed all the people there and now a days, he can not even stay in Darjeeling and fleeing from hill. Now, it is the time that these people must rise and ask for their rightful demand-a seperate state of Gorkhaland. In India, there are other regions like in Uttar Pradesh, people are asking for different state 'Bundhelkhand' and in Andhra Pradesh-'Telangana'. Let us share our view on this topic what we Nepali people residing in many parts of the world can do for these people. Do U support these people? Looking back the 'constructive' role that India played in Madhesh region of Nepal to make Madhesis conscious of their rights of 'self-determination', I think we will not be doing any injustice to Indians and people living there. Guys, Have your say!!!!

Yes, cant agree more to this logic now. I am not from Darj or from India and was of the view that this issue is betwwn indian gov and nepali speaking indian nationals...but from last week development in nepal, we definitely need to 'appriciate' the indian role by playing 'constructive' role too...

And, U can read one news as provided in the link. If you surf Indian papers these days, you can find many news on this topic though not placed so prominently on their front page. Now, I will try to summarise the news in case U do not have time to read. Government of India wants Darjeeling and hill areas to be put under 6th Schedule of Indian Constitution which accords a special status to Darjeeling in the same manner as provided to the TRIBAL AREAS in NORTH EAST STAES-in Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura. It certainly gives a greater autonomy to the hill people but the motive of Indian government is that they want the zeal of fighters to be down by tempting offering this speacial status. The Indian establishment most probably wants the people their to be docile and be happy with what they have got. So, in long term, it affects the independent state demand of Nepalese. Now, Subash Ghising wants this to happen-that is he is in favour of 6th Schedule status. From that perspectives, many nepalis living their are gainst him and see him enemy of Nepali. That is what I understood from the news. Now, this proposal is lingering in Indian Parliament and we need to wait and see what happens if the proposal is/is not given a go ahead. All the major Indian Newspapers are constantly reporting on the recent happenings in Darjeeling and the ongoing strike their for the past two weeks. U can read them here: http://www.telegraphindia.com/1080229/jsp/frontpage/story_8963702.jsphttp://www.merinews.com/catFull.jsp?articleID=130673http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/002200802291421.htm

I'm not too aware nor have in dept knowledge of all the politics in Nepal/Daj. This is all my common sense, nothing more. We, Nepali, have already too much trouble right now in our hand and the last thing we want is to get into another major problem, not that we don't give a damn. It's just we're helpless, broke out of energy, money and spirit. But then some might argue, if Madesh want independence, why not we get back Daj which was exchanged for Birganj anyway? If you're going to loose all the terai, might as well get Daj back like it used to be. But anyway, I don't see even remotely possible for the Daj people to even try to fight India right now. You'll be crushed and it guaranteed that Nepali leaders and Nepali people will NOT be there to help by any mean. We're too chicken and selfish. India will NOT allow its region to break, instead they're looking to acquire NEPAL too (well it's 90 % acquired in reality). I'm pulling all these off my ass, so don't take it too serious.

There should be separate gorkhaland state merging darjeeling, sikkim etc in India and that that state should be given full autonomy. There should be a election after the creation of gorkhaland state which will decide whether the state will be part of india or want to be a part of Nepal which will make larger Nepal. thank you. Please present your views.

Long time back, Himal Khabar Patrika had published a special repoprt on
Gorkhaland. I am searching for that article and put it here in case I
am able to find that.
I read that Britishers wanted to give the territory of Darjeeling and
other areas back to Nepal but our Rana PM at that time in 1947, thought
that people in Darjeeling are educated and if they become part of
Nepal, Rana Regime topples.
Today, Every Rana should feel shame because of the conduct of their
forefathers. anyway, we can not do much on that front and Today,
Darjeelingee People are unlikely to agree to be part of Nepal.
So, the rightful thing we can do is to help people of Darjeeling to
make a new State "Gorkhaland". I think the metal/rod is still hot to
hit.

What a dumb idea. These days my pride of calling myself Nepali is deminishing. I wish Nepal is a part of India. And madhesi people should have been thinking this way. They must be envy of what is going on the other side of the border. India is growing economically in super fast pace and people on the other side of the border have much much better living standard. And my question is why the f**k Nepali speaking Indians people like to be part of Nepal seeing all the chaos going on in Nepal. First Nepal has to be able to control what they have with them. Days of feeling proud of brave Gurkhas are long gone. Infact Gorkha doesn't suits anymore, since the Shah Dynasty has been humilated and overthrown. May be we should say PrachandaLand instead of Gorkhaland; what a shame. We are slowly losing our identity.

i dunno much abt the social condition in places in india like sikkim, darjeeling assam and places wherre nepalis have been living for centuries. but im certain about one thing . indian hate nepalis......they never wanted us to prosper and always tried to seize the oppurtunity to encroach our soverignity.......look at the treaties india have made with nepal... and above all who can forget Kalapani.........so i think all lthe nepalis should join hand in hand to counter india........cmon if israel could do against arab countries nepal could do the same........but sadly when will nepalis ever realize that..........they r still into madeshland, khumbuwan, limbuwan and shit..........such a small country but so much difference and hate towards each other...... anyway i fully support gurkhaland if the nepalis living ther want to be that way.........

Gorkhaland should be created merging darjeeling, sikkim and all territories which Nepal lost due to Sugauli treaty. Sugauli treaty is the most disgraceful subject for we, nepali. We had to give away 1/3 of our land to east india company and many other disadvantages. After the creation of Gorkhaland state, there should be a constitutional election in the state, which will decide the fate of the state, whether it should remain as part of India or it should be merged to Nepal forming a greater Nepal. If the majority goes to merging gorkhaland to Nepal and If India comes in between the merging of Gorkhaland to Nepal, then a underground rebellion should be started for the independence of Gorkhaland State. After independence of gorkhaland, we can merge into Nepal for a greater Nepal. Its possible. Nothing is impossible. The word" IMPOSSIBLE" itself sys i am possible. Come on guys, we can do it. Give you views.
The first main step is:
Making Darjeeling, sikkim etc a Gorkhaland state.
Lets accomplish this step first. Then we will go to step 2. alright
I urge all sajha members to present their views. Please.
