Dear Nepalese people around the world,

My cousin brother, who is only 27 years old, is fighting for his life with end stage chronic kidney failure in Nepal. Doctors after looking at his kidney biopsy report has declared that the only option left at this point is for the kidney transplant. Dai's primary physician Dr. Sudha Khakurel from Bir hospital has referred to the doctor in India who has told that it would cost at least 700,000 indian rupees for the transplant. There is no way his family can afford that much of money for his treatment. Also, no one in his family members could be the matching donor for the kidney. Dai is now against the idea of transplant because he thinks he doesn't want some extra years of life at the cost of financial burden to his family all their life.

Thus, I have set up a web-page www.helpraj.com where we can donate whatever amount we can towards his kidney transplant. I humbly request all of you to let's join the hands together to give him that hope which he seems to have lost.

Together we can !

Raj Shrestha
Syracuse, NY

On bhai tika day, I called my cousin (who I put Bhai-Tika with) to wish her for the occasion, to my utter surprise she told me that her own brother (Raj Kumar dai) was on ICU. No one knew for sure what was wrong with him. Few days later, he was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure at stage V. I couldn’t believe it. I don’t think any one could have.

Raj Kumar dai was role model of my life in many sense. When I needed my own name to be admitted to school, my mom named me ‘Raj Kumar’ too because she was so inspired to see him excelling in school that one day she wished I was like him.

Later in years, my mom’s wishes became my wishes too. We used to play cricket in his tole, and he was so good at both batting and bowling that I wished I could play like him too. We used to sit together to watch movies, and he knew so much about them that I wished I knew as much as he did. He started going to college, and I too started dreaming of going to college one day. Just being who he is, he inspired change in my life.

But, today knowing my cousin is fighting with his own life gives me immense pain. Knowing my mama, maiju and their happy family won’t be same again is heart aching. So, I started thinking of ways I could help them, and this is how I formed this webpage with the help of my friend.

I work at SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY as Radiologic Technologist. I consulted Raj Kumar dai’s medical reports to residents at the University hospital namely Dr. Binaya Khanal, Dr. Ashish Maskey and Dr. Bhaja Om Shrestha. They all have given common suggestion for immediate kidney transplant as the best option.

Since I relayed that message to my sister they have been working on Raj Kumar dai’s kidney transplant, but the progress is very slow. The major obstacle is of course the financial condition. Dai’s primary doctor Dr. Sujata Pokhrel has referred him to the hospital in India where he was told that it would cost 700,000 IC (Indian Currency) for the transplant and other medical charges including for the donor as there was no matching donor among the family members. However, dai has been against the idea of transplant because there is no way his family can arrange that much of money.

For all these reasons and for the cause of humanity, I have set up this webpage so that we can help him for his kidney transplant. I request families, friends, relatives, and Nepalese community to come together for this noble cause. He is one of us. He has so much to live for, so many dreams to fulfill and so many responsibilities towards his family. We can give him that chance.

Donations towards Raj dai's Kidney Transplant could be made by clicking the "Donate" button above or by mailing a check payable to "Raj Kumar Kidney Fund" to the following address:

Raj Shrestha

153 Fellows Ave.

Syracuse, NY 13210

USA

For people in Nepal, donation can be deposited directly to Raj Kumar Dai's account in Nepal Industrial & Commerce (NIC) Bank at Kamladi in account number 10538KB.

Dear friends,

Thank you from the heart for everyone who donated to the 'Raj Kumar Kidney Transplant fund'. I will assure you that each cents of your donation will go towards the treatment of Raj Kumar's Kidney disease. I also have updated the list of the donors, and I will keep doing so each day.

However, I think the response to this cause hasn't been very positive. I once again most sincerely request all the sajha visitors to consider donating whatever you can for this family whose only left hope is people like you. Please help this family from falling apart.

From this sudden health crisis of Raj Kumar dai what I have learned is that life is very fragile, and it can happen to anyone of us. We might as well be the one at the recieving end at any given day too. So, please visit www.helpraj.com for donation and other health information. A small donation from each one of us means a life for someone.

Raj Shrestha

We, Kshitij Bhai and I over the years had been collecting the recyclable bottles from various gatherings and parties in Syracuse area and donating the money every year to the needy people in Nepal. Last year, we had been able to make total of $80 from the collection, and we have decided  to donate this money to the 'Raj Kumar Kidney Transplant fund' this year.

I am writing this here not to promote what we did, but to promote the whole cause of giving nature among us. We often talk big about how we can help to the poor and needy people from Nepal, but when it comes to putting in action we step back. I think the same has happened for this noble donation idea that Raj bhai came up with.

So, I plead Nepalese friends to donate whatever you can for this young guy who is fighting for his life. You don't need to have a whole lot of money to donate, just the small willingness to help someone can go a long way.
