A typical Nepali pretends in the following manner. Add your observation in the list:

1) You speak more in English than in Nepali when you meet a recently arrived Nepali. You pretend as if you forgot the Nepali words.
2) You say you have a goal to make some money here and go back home to establish  after a few years. You pretend you wanted to go early but something did not work for you.
3) When you work in Wal-Mart or Subway or Macs or Gas Station, etc, you do not want to see Nepali customers coming and seeing you working there. You pretend as if you don't do the labor job.
4) If you are not from ktm or any other bigger city, you hesitate to say which district/village of Nepal you are from. You pretend to be a civilized citizen.
5) You think you are the smartest student and that's why you are here. You pretend to be a talented student even if you have lots of C's and B's in your transcript.
6) You are here because there is no opportunity back home. You pretend as if you tried all sort of possibilities before you planned go abroad.
7) You criticize other Nepali fellow for what s/he is doing or achieving, rather than appreciating her/his achievement. You think s/he is a lucky person. You pretend the luck did not favor you.
8) You advise others (especially Nepali) even if you know very little. You pretend you know so many things.
9) You make so many plans such as trips, learning new skill, etc, and you achieve less than 10% of them. You pretend you planned well but time did not allow you to execute things.
10) You pretend: NONE of the above applies to you.

1. I speak more in English than Nepali when there is American around. I hate it when my Chinese friends talk in their language when I am around them. I always hated it when my Newar friends talked in newari when I was around them. If I am with only Nepalese, I speak Nepali.
2. My goal is not to go back to Nepal. If I were to go back, I'd not be here in the first place. If I were to go back, I'd be saving every penny I earned.
3. I don't want Nepalese see me working at any place. Once bitten and twice shy, when I was a dishwasher, Nepalese waiters treated me like a piece of crap. I didn't like that and I will avoid everything that would make me suffer from inferiority complex.
4. Doesn't apply to me. I am from Kathmandu.
5. I am smart, thats why I am here, doing what I do the best. Anyway, All A's in your transcript still doesn't prove that you are smart. You can have all C's and still considered smart. What kind of smartness are we talking about anyway? Street smart? Book Smart? Math Smart? Direction Smart? Einstein is considered as an ultimate smartass although he didn't have impressive grades.
6. Doesn't apply to me. I was here before I had to worry about opportunities.
7. Doesn't apply either. God forbid, luck had it's charm on me and I appreciate people for their achievement, whether it is American or Nepali. I have no desire to become another Bill Gates.
8. I will give you an advice if you ask me for one. So, I guess that doesn't apply to me either. I don't advise every Tom, Dick and Harry. I am not in consulting business.
9. This applies to everyone. One of the factors behind it is procrastination and it is Universal. It's more of a Human Nature than a Nepali thing.
10. I guess nothing applies to me and I ain't pretending.

Shouldn't you say, "we." I am guessing you are a Nepali too, and I am pretty sure it applies to you too as your no 7 point states:

7) You criticize other Nepali fellow for what s/he is doing or achieving, rather than appreciating her/his achievement. You think s/he is a lucky person. You pretend the luck did not favor you.

Isn't that

This thread got twisted right after it's birth. The point here is not to compare you with the 9 points mentioned in the first ten points. It's rather to add the points something that you know about pretending. The subject "You" in the sentence doesn't mean "that's you" dude !!! I started with 9 points from my experience. You add more...

My comment: I'm Nepali and proudly say I'm Nepali. Some points apply to me tool. Points (1) and (8) are how I has been treated by others.  Do not pretend anything else ha ha ha ha. Point (10) is just a closing comment he he. Other point are dekheko ra suneko.

Great work, nepte! Every single one of them applies to me. It is so funny to see when people read your points, they start projecting right away. Keep it up, nepte!

As students turn to immigrants there are issues that are tough to deal with.
The failed immigration system in u.s  has lot to do with it.
I think Nepalese are generally hard working bunch without twisted minds. Just because you see another Nepali does not mean you need to socialize or be friends, brother ,sister.
Be independent and lay low for now.

dear nepte,

i dont know who u r or where u r. but whatever u judged's really gr88 man. i really liked all the analysis u've done. but i have one of my own opinion about point no 7... actually u said that we criticize other nepalese for what theyu've achieved.. i guess i am also the one.. but i always criticized such nepalese who achieve something but not in gud way.. u know what i mean right.... students here at US....they just wanted to earn money by hook or crook.. they do anything to earn money...u know what happen in my state... one guy stole a money from the gas station in such a way that the owner have to close the station and he couldnt pay the debt if that and apparently that nepali guy these days do whole lots of show offs, he drives a $15000 mustang and he thinks that he is one of the coolest guy and he got that car from his hard work but sounds bullshit...so what do u think nepte should we appreciate his achievement or we should criticize it...thats the main reason i critice such nepali who earn the money in wrong way.....
