Three simultaneous blasts rock the capital city (4:40 pm)

Reports coming in say three simultaneous blasts have occurred at Tripureswore, Sundhara and Balaju in the afternoon.

A few causalities have been reported. Nobody had claimed responsibility for the blasts.

KATHMANDU, Sept 2 - Series of bomb explosions rocked Kathmandu at around 4:30 pm Sunday.
The bombs went off simultaneously at busy market places at Tripureshwor, Sundhara and Balaju.

One person has reportedly died on the spot while a few others are injured when a bomb went off in front of the United World Trade Center at Tripureshwor.

A girl was critically injured when a bomb went off at Tudikhel-Sundhara area.

No one has taken the responsibility for the explosions so far.

KATHMANDU, Sept 2 - A series of bomb explosions rocked Kathmandu at around 4:30 pm Sunday.
The bombs went off simultaneously at busy market places at Tripureshwor, Sundhara and Balaju.

Explosions have also been reported in Kalimati and Kirtipur. However, the report is yet to be verified independently.

Two people have been confirmed dead when a bomb went off at a bus stop in front of the United World Trade Center at Tripureshwor.

“The explosion ripped apart one person while around 7 to 8 persons were injured,” said Ram Pariyar, a bus driver who was an eyewitness to Tripureshwor explosion. The injured include six school children.

Two passenger buses were also partially damaged in the explosion.

Two more are feared dead at an explosion in a microbus in front of a police post in Balaju.

14 injured in Balaju, four in a critical condition.

A girl was critically injured when a bomb went off at Tudikhel-Sundhara area.

All the injured have been rushed to the emergency ward and trauma center at the Bir Hospital.

No one has taken the responsibility for the explosions so far.

Kathmandu Valley Police Chief SP Sarvendra Khanal said that they were still investigating the case. Nobody has been arrested so far.

Terai Army claims responsibility for Kathmandu blasts

KATHMANDU, Sept 2 - A little known group called the Terai Army has claimed responsibility for the Kathmandu blasts.
One Mr Khanna, who identified himself as the leader of the group based in Rautahat district, called a television channel in Kathmandu and claimed the responsibility over the phone.

The claim is yet to be verified independently.

The group was behind a few bomb blasts in Rautahat a few months back.

In mid-May, at least 14 people were injured, one of them critically, when the group had detonated a bomb at a busy local market in Chandranigahapur in Rautahat district.

Most of the injured were shoppers buying essential commodities at the market

त्रिपुरेश्वर इलाक़े में मौजूद बीबीसी के संवाददाता शरद केसी ने बताया कि घायलों मे छोटे बच्चों से लेकर बुज़ुर्ग तक हैं, डॉक्टर कई लोगों की हालत काफ़ी गंभीर बता रहे हैं.

माओवादी विद्रोहियों के एक नेता ने कहा है कि उनके संगठन का इस विस्फोट से कोई संबंध नहीं है.

पिछले वर्ष नवंबर में माओवादी विद्रोहियों और सरकार के बीच ऐतिहासिक समझौता होने के बाद से यह पहली घटना है जब काठमांडू में बम धमाके हुए हैं.

माओवादी विद्रोहियों ने हिंसा का रास्ता छोड़कर लोकतांत्रिक प्रक्रिया अपनाने का वचन दिया है और माओवादी सरकार में शामिल हैं.

नेपाल में इस समय संयुक्त राष्ट्र के विशेषज्ञों की निगरानी माओवादियों और शाही सेना ने अपने शस्त्र सौंप दिए हैं जिनकी जाँच का काम चल रहा है.

KATHMANDU (AFP) - At least two people were killed and more than two dozen others injured Sunday in a series of near-simultaneous explosions across Nepal's capital Kathmandu, police said.

Hundreds of extra police fanned out across the city following the three blasts, which took place aboard a minibus packed with commuters, at a bus stop in the busy city centre and outside army headquarters.

Just watched the news here. Three simultaneous explosions, one in Tripureswore (next to Kanti Ishwori/ opposite of New World Trade Centre), one in Balaju and one in Sundhara. Two confirmed dead, one 20 year old student of VS Niketan, one 40 year old woman that has not yet been identified. Among the injured were 6 students from VS Niketan. About 25 other were injured and out of them, 10 have been released from the area hospitals.
The armed police and army have stepped up the security and it is fairly quite on the streets here tonight.
Its getting scary here in KTM.
