The last I heard about Kathmandu Spice is that people had to wait 2 hours before they got served... I myself visited KS with a group of friends previously and it was the same story... The definetly need a booster to move... Is it worth waiting to eat the 5/6 momos after many hours... The criteria that a resturant is judged by in my lists are: Cusotmer sevice - KS - stings Location - parking issue but you will find one eventually not as bad as harvard square if you don't want to pay for Valet Food - Food has to be fresh and be authentic to the place that is says it is from. KS - some nepali food, some north indian, south indian cook - probably it's the fusion that it is... Ambience - when you walk inside the place you need to feel that you are really there in the place where the food comes from... not create a mix up like you see where one uses all authentic decor from one culture and serve food that does not belong to that place. As for KS - it is just a regular place.

I have tried food at kathmandu Spice few times I loved it. I rate it this way Food: very good Parkning: Excellent Price: Very Reasonable Atmosphere: Great. Music: Very Good. Workers: Most of them are Nepali. I see myself going to Kathmandu Spice very often. I think we should try to support Mr. Binay Manandhar's effort to provide restaurant service which is focused in catering all of us.

Reveiw Restaurent, The reason it takes long for the food to be served is because the chef in KTM SPice insists upon cooking everything fresh from the scratch. And they opened only a month ago, they are still trying to adjust to the crowd. Last weekend when I was there, and the owner was saying they are just getting around to estimate an approximate day to day operation(in other words how many customers to expect on a daily basis). Now I don't know about you but I would rather have everyting freshly cooked than have some precooked stale food stirfried in a pan. Same with the momos.. they always taste really fresh and full of that juice. As far as the space is concerned... he he YES IT IS SMALL BUT THERE IS NOTHING THE OWNERCAN DO ABOUT IT IS THERE ? he he But personally I'd prefer better quality food than a bigger space(reminds me of this small Italian restaurent in Brighton named CARLO where there are only 3 tables and the wait is always an hr or mor and Menino, TeddyK, and Botched Kerry are regulars there). And for decor .....ha ha ha THE NAME IS KATHMANDU SPICE NOT MIXED ASIAN RESTAURENT.

First a disclaimer: Owners of Kathmandu Spice are dear friends of mine. Hence, I am biased on my review, but I have not exaggerated anything, just put down my honest opinion below. This is an opinion, my opinion, so feel free to disagree. =================================================== We were there couple of weekends ago and loved the place. It is quite a cozy little restaurant where you want to bring your friends and family over for enjoyable meal. By little, it is not that little. I think 60 people can comfortably fit in there. I liked the ambience - especially thought the owners put into the interrior decor: the colors of the wall, statuettes that adorn the shelves, thankas in diagonal shaped frames, LCD television in case you want to catch a ballgame, etc. Food was delicious - the Heavenly Drumsticks were indeed quite heavenly. There were other sumptuous dishes too, but they had me at Heavenly Drumsticks. Oh yes, I almost forgot, Kung-Pao Cauliflower was also tastefully interesting. Though one may say Nepali food served in most Nepali restaurants are no different than Indian food, that was not the case in Kathmandu Spice. Yes, the chef is Indian, but the food he makes has unique Nepali flavor. The servers are just delightful. Young Nepali ladies who never fail to smile. My 15 month old daughter had delightful time being pampered by them. They were prompt with the service and quick with menu suggestions. There is no designated parking lot, so you have to park on the streets. If you cannot find a spot on Mass Ave, try the side streets. It should not be too much of trouble. We were there during lunch, so did not have to wait to enter. But with such inviting atmosphere and delicious food, it would not be far fetched to imagine that there would be an hour or two of wait time during weekend dinners. And that is a good sign. Wouldn't you rather go to a restaurant that seems to be in demand than a place that is deserted?

I went this place twice and personally was pleased with what i got. Its not on my 'must go' list partly because if you want to go to a Nepali restaurant around Boston, how many options do you have anyway? I would highly recommend this over the one in West Roxbury (Himalayan Bistro) coz the food in HB is almost indian. I consciously ordered dishes under 'Nepali' section only to be disappointed with the taste. Kathmandu spice is a smaller but cozier place and I loved their food. Specially the quanti. I know they have South Indian chef and makes me appreciate the food even more better coz he does a pretty good job of making the food taste less indian, more nepali. Besides the specific dishes like momo, choila, etc...most of the indian and nepali food tastes pretty much similar to me. I dont know if the wait has gotten worse now..I went the first week it was open and then in early november..not much of a wait both the times. I agree that the food does taste more fresh and for that I am willing to wait a little longer. Or else, every dish I order is gonna taste the same as they use same base/gravy. If you have dined in restaurants in North End...you know that the quality of the food is definitely worth the wait. And these folks are new. So I would give them until end of this year to figure out their operational procedures. My only wish: I wish they would serve something more authentic like bara or i cant remember the name of the dish right now (traditional newari dish that looks like pancakes but with eggs and other stuffing on top of it...damn my overworked brain! wats the name??) rather than serving dosa :-( I can go to any indian restaurant to eat that. I guess thats the compromise the owners made with the chef? Overall...im happy :-)

bostongirl, good, i'm going to try it this week or the next. Just too busy to get out of my hospital most of the days but well looks like I should make time for it. Plus I'm done with my residency, so my new job is not that demanding. Oh, just talking to myself. Silly me!

Hi Bathroomcoffee, You are misinterpreting me here, dude. I don't need any female date (or a male date for that matter). Period. If you want to eat free, that's another matter. You can email me and I can feed you--if you are so envious! What bothers me is this old mentality haunting you. While I was not even paying attention to the gender of the nicks--and I know how artificial they can be--you say I am hitting on every female sajha user!! How ludicrous. You can go back and check all the messages I have posted if you have so much free time in your hands to keep track of who is doing what on sajha. Are you doing a little surveillance for some bushies? I do know that virtual nicks need not be and cannot be correlated to any specific gender simply based on the phrasing/wording of the nicks. It may be said, though, that those who choose more gender-neutral nicks like bathroom coffee have deep-seated anxiety/uncertainty haunting their sexual identity. As a matter of fact, you seem to be obsessed with such gender issues as you are wont to interpreting everything from that narrow mindset that verges on the neurotic. I know how your psychic defense mechanism will respond now, but I care less about others on such issues. SS

Ok guys..TIME OUT! Leave some feedback about the restaurant if you have been there, or ask questions about it. There is no point going on whos hitting on who, why they are doing it..how often they are doing it..if they are indeed doing it or not...common now!! If a person wants a date, they will find a date. There is no need to make any suggestive comments or over-interpret someone else's posting. You can put a new thread to talk about gender issues, differences, medical terminology, deep rooted issues either of you have...maybe i will drop by and leave a comment or two :-) For now...lets about the restaurant..shall we?

When SimonSaurav said he is too busy to get out of the hospital, I felt sorry for him because I thought he was a patient, probably mental, there. Hehehehe. Now that he has unabashedly managed to blow his own horn, I guess I have to take his word that he is a doctor. But then, judging from the time he spends posting stuff in Sajha, I wonder if he really is one. BC did catch him trying to pick up girls here, though. But to be fair, BC, if he has to boast publicly, truthfully or not, that he finished his residency in one of Boston's hospitals, then poor guy needs all the help he can get in having someone go on a date with him. Y'know what I mean? Now let this thread get back to K-Spice.

Greetings! Bathroom Uncle, let others have a little freedom of words just like you do with the usage of your moronic words. ;) Bostongirl, I too do not remember the name of that dish with eggs and groundmeat (I suppose) topping, but the recipe of bara is quite simple. :) I guess it would not be wise to forth comments on KTM Spice without experiencing, but getting opportunities to give the similar/known tastes to our taste buds is quite a mark, I would say! And Yes, sparing them a little time to groom is not a bad idea too.

Kathmandu Spice has to do something about the time they take to serve because it simply sounds ridiculous to hear that people are waiting more than two hours for their order to appear in their table, no matter how fresh and authentic the food may be no one has that much patience. Another thing they might have to be aware of is their handling big groups, they simply cannot get nervous and not be able to manage a crowd infact they should be able to get good business from the big group. Even though the people who serve are friendly they also need to be faster. there is no excuse for people in this kind of business however new they are as this is a crucial time for them to make a lasting impression on their customers, so good luck to the good people of KTM spice in their venture as people are not too happy with their long wait for their order!!
