Top 10 Reason Why Prachanda was correct about Nepal Army

1) There is no eminent threat for Nepal from International forces
2) Nepal Army has killed lots of Nepalese other than Maoists abusing Human Rights
3) Nepal Army has raped and murdered numerous Nepalese Women
4) Nepal Army cadets are used by Journels and Kernels as worker for their house
5) Nepal Army has not been productive, it has been sitting in the Barracks without much work consuming all the scarce capital of the state
6) Even if there arises danger from any point it is incapable of retaliating back. It could not fight even the Maoists, forget about the Foreign forces.
7) Nepalese army accounts are so mismanaged that there is not transparency in the source of income from the UN Peace Keeping forces, all income goes into pocket of Journels and Kernels, Nepal as such does not benefit from it, nor do the army itself.
8) The structure of Nepalese army has been such that it totally favors feudalism, helps to be governed by Ranas and Thapas only
9) There is no sense of democratic sense in the Nepalese army, it is governed by 'Bhedatantra'
10) The army is responsible for the People of nepal not any person, it should act as a fear factor for the head of state if the head does anything wrong, People should be the first priority.

The army has commented its glorious past but it does not Justify its present structure, activities, policies and transparency.

PS. This is evaluation of Nepalese Army by itself only, the Maoist Army comparison has not been done. It is intended to evaluate Nepalese Army and the reason why army should be decreased in number. Please do not include comments about adding the Maoist Army in to Nepalese army.

IMI, NA can not kill "traitors" like Ghopachhe, as you label him. If it could, Maoists problem would be resolved already by the king.

NA knows nothing more than how to rape and can kill those helpless women walking aroud the barrek, how to pick teenage girls right from there houses and rape and kill, how to arrest ordinary people from the streets and kill to the name of terrorists, and so on.

You are arguing for the most corrupt and useless army in the world. Unless army is restructured (it should not necessarily in a way that Prachanda is demanding) and ordinary porsonnel would be able to head it, it can not do anything. that's the bitter fact.

I am all for democracy but if any one say anything demoralizing National Army is traitor!!

There may be few incidents of rape and human rights abuse but those people who are blaming nepal army is no way in state to point finger at them .Look at yourself first!!!!

If they say their cause is justified as revolution i say Army cause is justified as well.People like Gopachee is all for maoist and i donot believe his story about being congressi cause if he had been he would not be talking like this.At least he would have thought about pros and cons.He doesn't love nepal neither any nepali. I usderstand your feelings. I know that most of the Army from ordinary family are working honestly for their higher-ranked Shah, Thapa, Panday clans, so they and their families are proud of NA. But, that work was just intended for saving monarchy and strengthening the monopoly of higher ranked officials. I still believe that Nepali Army just served for the thula-thalu, dhani-mani, samantas in the past and did nothing worth mentioning for the people. It is just becasue of how RNA (now NA) is structured.

Actually, I have one relative who reached up to the post of Karnel (Colonel) and got retired about one year back. I had some discussion with his son (my distant cousin) one months back (he is residing in North America). He had difficulty in accepting the fact that Army did nothing except serving for themselves (his father own a big and attractive house in Kathmandu and had ammassed so much property) and thulaa-bada. But at this changing scenerio, not only that cousin but also his father acknowledges that NA (past RNA) was good for nothing.

I will not be surprised if you IMI, MadDog and other change their minds and accept the historic fact about NA.

IMI, I don't mind whatever you label to me. But, I had really difficulty in thinking in a way you think about RNA. RNA is/was so strong and large that it could do a lot of good thing, far far more than what it did in the past. But, it is the RNA structure that hinders all the process.

I think the only reason why it could not crush the maoists insurgency becasue of its structure. Lower ranked personnel started thinking that they were just serving for the monarchy and to fullfil the wish of higher raned officials of doing monopoly forever, not for the nation. thus they lost any enthuasiam of fighting against maoists.

so, let's accept the fact and restructure it so that our dads/brothers/friends/relatives get equal opportunities and justice in the NA and will also be able to feel like they are really serving for the nation, not for particular clan(s).

One thing I can bet on is that it wasn't for RNA, we would have already become a communist nation.

RNA was far from being perfect. Their men did work at Karsap and Gersap's house as house keepers, servants and what not. Although one could argue that is the privelege that comes with being high ranking army. But that has to stop.

On the other hand, RNA did deploy a good number of men every year as peace keeping troops and to assist in international conflict. They served well.

Late king Birendra did not want to use his army men against maoists because I truly believe he thought he will be killing his own people. He counted on democratically elected government to resolve the conflict who failed miserably as we all know. When the army did get deployed, the maoists had already become too strong.

RNA did pretty much nothing during the peace time, they could not crush the maoists. But they did keep us from complete maoist take over. If it wasn't for them, Daku prachanda would probably be the head singha surbar by now.

what makes you think you can compare 200 yrs of Army's legacy and heritage to maoist.

Just reduce the number of army from 90000 to 10000 just like prachanda said and soon enough you will find nepal turn into communist nation because maoist rebel could easily overcome army. And people who thinks amry works only for king they should really see thier face in the mirror. Probably none of the loved ones of gopachee who is in army was killed by maoist simply because he is in army. Even when all of the nepal was burning during the war people in the kathmandu was relatively safe all because majority of army is in kathmandu. Tell me that army works for king who keeps awake whole night so that there is no trouble for night buses and coaches. I dont wish but if any place of nepal is flooded completely or struck by earth quake whom do you turn on to for rescue. Do you think those amry wont help because they work for king y?

Army are the true jewels of the country whose life is constantly in danger only for few thousand rupees. people like gopachee and others may be living in US or developed country and it is quite easy to raise finger to the army. People who raisies figner on their own army are the traitors in itself considering the contribution those army have given. These morons decide whole nepal army only by seeing few officials llike pyar jung and forgetting the contribution of those 90000s who cosntantly patrols risking their own life.

High Ranking Officers enjoy priviledges all around the world........otherwise whynot just settle to be a sipai???? .......Even here in America , high ranking officers have priviledges.....
