I am sure many people here in sajha eats the sacred cow. I reallly dont know how to react?

Whole royal family was wiped out in a single night, nobody was caught until now..
Even those criminals ar still alive today.
Poor family in remote area who did not have anything else to eat than their own cow now spend 12 years behind the bars.

What the democratic system we have in Nepal???

Atleast there's one instance in NEPAL where LAW is upheld....don't you think?? Our law says we are the HINDU kingdom, and COW is sacred.....I have consumed beef myself, but didn't do that in Nepal......May be its just me, but I m in favor of the ruling....

Obviously, the law needs to be changed. A murderer of human being can get out of prison within 2-4 yrs. and can become minister within a year of getting out of prison while a person applying for the post of peon or pawn, or even a job abroad needs to show clearance of criminal records.

Knightcrawler, being a hindu, you may not like to see cow being slaughtered. I understand your sentiment. But what kind of system that we have to punish a killer of cow for 12 yrs. We become happy to see a killer of cow inside prison while we become silent about the issue of killer of our own king or our own relatives.

consuming beef is not aillegal in nepal only killing cow is. i think the law should change. no it must change. human life is more important than cow which is an animal. religious people will naot kill cows anyways so whay have a law that discriminates poor people.

i personally prefer that nepal should be a secular country and conservativism like this should be get going gone.

"I have consumed beef myself, but didn't do that in Nepal" - I'm confused. The issue is that Hindus as followers of the ideology are barred from consuming beef period--not that one can consume copious amounts in the West but not in Nepal right?

I concur with Birbhadra, humanity needs to prevail over Religious sentiments. It's more important to ensure that people have a decent meal to eat rather than wanting to preserve age old notions of religiosity and cultural notions.

Second, not everyone in Nepal is Hindu.
Third, Nepal is not a theocracy.

Therefore, the law is unjust and needs to be changed. Period!

What a dumb law. Just imagine the number of people that could see another day if those cows were slaughtered for the purpose of engorging. Isn't it true that in America, slaughtering dogs and cats are prohibited? I know this one case where this Chinese restaurant was forced to close because some Chinese was serving dogs. I don't understand what the frigging problem is with killing dogs and cats. They could be yummy to some people. Sure, many Americans think eating dogs is gross, but is it really? Ask the millions of koreans who were raised on dog diet!!!

Well, my own feeling is that cows shouldn't be treated the same as humans. At max, that dude should have gotten 5 years in prison. In Virginia, for example, animal cruelty is either a class 6 felony or a class 1 misdemeanor. With class 6 felony you get 5 years prison at max. But it all depends on the judge of course.

thugged out got a point here . and Arko also has a point. we can't have both Gai puja and COw killing at the same time. however there should be a law that resonably discourages killing cows to favor the sentiments of majority population which is hindu (buddist don't kill) and not too severe of a law that is almost a persecution of the dirt poor starving people. i don't think people will start killing cow any soon if the law is scratched. maybe minorities like muslims and other indigeneous people might.

having a law about killing cows in nepal is in a way good because in india there is no such law and timie often you see people fighting over these issues and taking laws in thier own hands instead of the government. so there ought to be a balanced law

How can we relate the US law with the laws of Nepal??? I don't see a point there Birbhadra....I agree, even Hindus consume beef around the world, and the punishment seems rather harsh, but if we all know we are barred by law not to kill cows and consume it, why do it?? Besides, we don't know the financial situation of the women...so, let;'s not overstate the situation here....

I don't know if the woman deserved to get a punishment of 12 years, but am not in a state of mind to say that she should have been let free either.
Every nation has a certain rule set for itself and when a particular law speaks for majority of its people, it's right to preserve it....When I go to Nepal, I myself don't wanna see cows being slaughtered everywhere....
And also, just because few get away with killing humans, it's not right to say that others should now be given the right to kill some endangered or sacred animals OR even human beings for that matter....
