Most of the hindi movies I have seen are really really bad. I would hesitate to give even one star out of five. I wonder if there are indeed any good Bollywood movie that is worth the time. So friends, can you please recommend a good hindi movie? Also, please rate it - how many stars out of 5, five being the exceptionally good in all levels. Thanks.

I recently watched "Veer Jhara", though it is not new movie(I think 2004 or 2005).
Anyway I liked it and I would give 4.5 out of 5.

Talking about Hindi movies, there are more DON'T WATCH categories to NEVER WATCH ones than any other. In between, there are some good ones too.

I think Kalankisthan's list has almost all which are good ones. Lately I watched a movie called SWADES, and I guess it certainly has to be one of the best. A very well executed script, together with great performances and thought a provoking message. Have to admit, it brought tears to my eyes while watching the movie.

My significant other is trying to hog my Netflix Queue, ke garney yaar? I normally don't enjoy watching Hindi Movies (though there have been few that I did enjoy - like Dil Chahata Hai... actually that's it, can't think of any other), but when there is a threat of being banished to sleeping on sofa, one has to accomodate boss lady's interests. So, if I am going to give precious spots in my Netflix Queue to Hindi Movie, the least I can do to save my sanity is to make sure they are somewhat watchable. Hoina ra? C'mon sathi-haru, please help me out.

Chatmandude ko list ma euta pani herya chaina, LOL.. except "Hazaron Khwaishe Aishi" :D. Very good movie, indeed. eh.. everything is great in the movie except sometimes the director fails to keep up the pace. Knowing a little bit about "Emergency time" in Indian history during the early 70's would be helpful, if you don't know about it. Aru ta euta ni herya chaina.. :D

I heard "3 deewaren" is really good. That reminds... I bought the video cassette of that movie sometime around 2002 tira.. :O,... where could it be? :O

Any movie with Rani Mukerjee is a good bet!

Also, if you want to watch a horror flick then go for BHOOT. Watch it with full volume surround sound...:).

Though bollywood boast about producing the most number of motion pictures per year, they should be equally ashamed of the qualities of movies they produce. It has been more than five decades since India started producing movies but there has not been a significant change in the quality of acting, script, story-line and direction of movies. bollywood produces some of the worst actors and actresses. Even Amitab Bachhan is only a legend in bollywood, who I would doubt would be so great in other industries.
Bollywood movies just fill or seem to fill the cultural depravity present in US for those who are from South-East Asia. It gives a glimpse of our culture to those who have settled in west and have forgotten or vaguely remember or miss their culture, people and language to some extent. But to watch bollywood movies for pure enjoyment and quality of acting, would mean a three hour mental torture.
