it depends on what is ur requirements some sony are crappy and some dells are great depends on whether u r a student, IT professional, or just for email and internet... Some business models of Dell are made to stand torture but are expensive. Toshiba has some nice features and u can get fairly cheap sony vaio is overrated. lower models of dell are crappy but high end dells perform not less than any other $2500 laptops... so it depends on what u want to use the laptop with and what model u buy. Dell,Hp,Toshiba,Sony,Lenova,Ibm...

DELL re? DELL's wireless sucks so bad, of course you're gonna get a laptop with mobile technology. but every one i know who owns a dell laptop, inspiron or something else, they're always having trouble with their wireless. never can connect. no its not WEP problem, we access wireless from our university provided, and it is on, people with toshiba or sony are clicking away while dell people are trying to find a ethernet port on the wall so they could get online instead of using wireless, they go wire :D DELL desktops are good, but if you decide to buy anyway, DO NOT TELL THEM THAT IT IS FOR HOME USE. TELL THEM ITS FOR BUSINESS USE, and BULLSHIT THE NAME OF YOUR COMPANY AND EMPLOYEE NUMBER(tell 'em 6-7) then when they ask for promotions, say NO, ill contact you later... :D this trick makes dell work a bit better to stand out for small business.!

I have IBM, Toshiba, HP and Dell. IBM is pricy but the value is retained over time, very reliable. Dell is good for the money. Had more problems with Toshiba and HP (compaq) than others. Due to the rapid changes in technology, my recommendation is get the ones you find "reasonable" and purchase extended warranty for 3 years.

hmmm varying opinions... i also heard about Dell's wireless problems, but i think the problem is overrated and may only belong to the cheaper Inspiron models that start at $600 new??? I'm using a Dell Latitude d800(business model) , Review is here if u want to read: and it is working great in all kinds of wireless environments. Of course it is expensive too. So, my best suggestion would be Toshiba for around $700-1000, u can get pretty decent deal. If u have more budget, hp and IBM's are great too.

I have to say I'm underwhelmed by Dell. Their boxes are among the ugliest I've seen, although I've seen ads for some high-priced ones that aren't bad. The good press they get is due largely to the fact that the computer reviews that praise them to the skies are printed in mags that are subsidiaries of Dell and if you read them carefully you'll see that while the boxes are not the fastest/have best features, they always are on top because of the (sic) "good service."I've been around long enough to have heard just as many horror stories about their service as most others. There was a day they deserved their reputation, but that day has come and gone. ''Neupane said...sony vaio is overrated.'' Agreed....Sonys are nasty things when it comes to raw construction, serviceability, and support. Sorry, but that applies to much of the Sony consumer electronics. Just ask anybody who services laptops and/or consumer electronics for a living... I would go for Fujitsu Siemens or Toshiba.

Please don't buy Dell and toshiba and IBM laptops. Toshiba in first its good but there is lots problem in Bios and manythings. so you will feel worthless after few months which i am having now. Dell is okay for first few months after that you will start to face some technicial problem and after year, laptop will be worth less. IBM or Lenova is expensive than quality. you can get good quality from Fujitsu, HP and Sony. Sony is the best quality but price is really high. Fujitsu and Hp are okay. But fujitsu is far better than HP. choice on you. P_lease read once bellow link . http://www.notebookreview.com/ http://www.itreviews.co.uk/hardware/hard17.htm
