We were taught in school that this charismatic king of gorkha unified a nation that was divided in to fragments of small kingdoms.I do not recall anywhere in the earlier part of Nepal's history about the kingdom being a single nation before its unification. How could this be possible? The present monarch which is a product of the gorkha palace endorses and enforces that belief. The wit and military strength of gorkha king Prithivi infact used the offensive military tactics to declare wars and attack smaller kingdoms to stretch his empire.Gurkha king was an imperialist not a unifier. May all be aware. "Sabai lai chetana bhaya" Rr Please clarify me on this matter.

This is the sad reality rahula. Not only in Nepal, similar past can be found everywhere. The victor vanquished the others and established a nation. I see two options for you: live with it or advocate and fight for a world where no individuals will be ruled by anyone but themselves (no country; no boundaries) good luck for you on the option two

I don't think Prithvi Narayan Shah did some good job. He unified the country by brutally killing many people which many nepalese are still unaware of. Our development process stopped since Shah dynasty. Can anyone tell whether we were even able to maintain our previous devlopment eras like in the period of Licchavis or Mallas? He and his processors completely forget about the country named Nepal and were confined within their palace doing petty politics. Never thought for the country or the people. That's why so many kings were mad. THAT'S WHY PEOPLE IN MANY PARTS OF NEPAL CAN'T ACCEPT THE FACT THAT THEIR DISTRICTS ARE REALLY IN NEPAL. OTHERWISE WHY WOULD THEY CALL SAY "GOING TO NEPAL' FOR 'GOING TO KATHMANDU'. SOMEONE, perhaps in history, really need to stand up and do the analysis. We've got many things except this messy politics going around that is hindering our development process. So Let's not only blame the politics, it's our thinking process, cultures n' beliefs which we're carrying with THAT MIGHT BE THE SOLE CAUSE FOR ALL THE SUFFERING OF OUR NATION.

I endorse the idea of individual freedom. Our right to rule ourselvesis the birth right of every human being. Its a tough process Mahisasur.Sometimes you have this feeling that the whole world is a different realm where everything external tries to take that freedom of your thought that is dearly and when you decline to submit your compromises you are confined within the artificial walls of established institution.Well if you fight you emerge victorious. I am not a hulaki BTW.Highfy.

May be Prithvi was ruthless but think about this. Will there be Nepal if he did not do what he did.

After the eventual loss to Privi's men, the Kirtipur residents had their noses chopped off... I do not know how true this is though.

Perceval Landon's history book on Nepal (Perceval's Nepal, 1928?) quotes a christian missionary who visited Kirtipur back then of having seen Kirtipur residents whose nose or ears were cut off. Perceval Landon was in Nepal on Chandra Shumsher's service to write history.

For highfly, There would be no Nepal probably but there would be no divided Nepal as it is today either.(Divided in nepalese minds not geographical pieces)Prithivi N. simply tried to implement his idea concentration of power in the hands of one monarch. He was successful for last two hundred years except for the obstacle rana created for 104 years.Given power be distributed equally in the four corners of Nepal in a single nation under a monarchyless democratic system would work better. Just a thought:)

I guess Prithvi just wanted to have more land and people to rule... Unified Nepal was a bi-product...
