Dear sons and daughters of Nepal,

We do not really know what the situation is like in our country. We have heard more rumours and less facts; and we have made our own judgement based on those rumours. Our opinions have been divided into almost two halves. One half supporting the King's move and the other half opposing the action. Almost all of us who are fortunate enough to live in the west at this torrid time are capable to think sensibly on this issue.So lets contemplate with the love for the country and citizens in mind now.

Some of us may have been victims of atrocities committed by the Maoists. Some may have suffered because of the corrupted political leaders. And some of us may have been the victim of injustice in the Panchayat era and at present. So we are expressing our vengeance against those who have made us to suffer. And therefore we are divided. The citizens who are educated, who have seen how democray functions, who know the fruits of social justice in a developed society; we are divided. And this is not a good sign for the future. Tommorow, we have to take the burden of Nepal in our shoulders. We have to hand the nation to our next generation. We have to make sure that we can hand over a peaceful and prosperous nation to our children and die. Otherwise we are not different to the previous generation which never got the oppurtunity like us to see the democracy and prosperity of the western world. Our children will blame us if we fail to do better things for our country.So let's try to be impartial, let's forget our personal interest, let's put away our vengeance against both sides of the debate.With a cool mind let's discuss what can we do at best to resolve the current crisis from our part. I will try to give my assement in the next thread on what can we expect in the near future and what is best for the country in the coming days. Please put your thoughts, unbiased and pragmatic, without spilling your anguish and hatred to all the sides- political parties, monarchy and maoists.I hope all of you will take part in this debate very seriously.

But why should we include political parties in any future crisis resolution. They neither have popular support in_masses nor any armed forces of their own. In Nepali politics , by now it has been proven so many times that either you have have a popular support in_masses or an armed forces of your own. If you dont have either of two things, you are irrelevant.

King Gyanendra has taken a crucial step. His intentions are still very unclear because we do not know what kind of plans he has set to resolve the present crisis which he has promished to do in 3 years. We can hope, we can pray that he has good intentions. Lets hope he really wants to bring peace and stability in the country and put multiparty democracy and constitutional monarchy in track. Hope that he teaches good lessons of how to manage problems of country, how to give leadership, and how to assure people of peace, prosperity, law and order to the political leaders in these 3 years.

But before discussing about the hopes for the future, let us try to analyse the chance of things happening by getting in to the past of King Gyanendra at first. Then we will be discussing about the past of political leaders and the Maoists. We will also be discussing about the influence of India, China, US and Europe in the upcoming thread.

King Gyanendra, most of us know, had been put on the throne when he was a kid during the last moments of Ranas. King Tribhuwan had fled with his family to India and the Rana installed Gyanendra as the nearest available successor to the throne. Although he was a kid, he had been crowned as a King already in the History of Nepal. Unfortunately or fortunately for him, 104 years of the autrocratic regime of Ranas had to go and Gyanendra's short reign as a Royal successor ended with the dawn of a new era, if some Sajhaittes do not think it was the dawn of the democracy.

Because, he was not born as the eldest son, Gyanendra's role during the time Mahendra or Birendra has been overshadowed. I do not know lots of things about his past but let me put you what I know. I will try to be as unbiased as I can in the upcoming thread in which I will be giving some accounts of Gyanendra's role from the BS 2010s to 2046.

No, I'm not being bias or lop sided against political parties. I'm simply reminding you of the facts from the past events in Nepal which I hope you also acknowledge.

Starting from:
How many times has Ganendra fired goverments of different political parties since Nov. 2002 ?

Would he been able to fire goverments on his terms if these political parties had large popular support ?

Did any anti-monarch demosntrations by any political parties in the past was able shake the confidence of Ganendra ?

Why is Ganendra far more eager to make a deal with Maoists than the political parties ?

I will reply all the answers in upcoming threads. but lets try not to be biased at all. Against the King, against the Maoist and against the political leaders.Here we are in the discussion for reconcile. Reconcilliation amongst the Sajhaiites at first.

In democracy there could be general concensus on some issues but in most issues there are always bigger divisions and it's the very nature of democracy.

Example: If someone had asked for unity among Americans (in Bush's terms), every American should have agreed in going to war in Iraq because it is a very important political issue at this moment in the US.

On the other hand: IF someone had asked for unity (anti war activists' term), every American should have agreed not to go for war in Iraq because it is very important political issue in the US now.

Similarly if some asks for unity among Canadians every Canadians should voice against re-defination of marriage because it is going the redefine the traditional defination of marriage in Canadian law and going to include same-sex marriage. It is a very important political issue in Canada now.

On the other hand if some one asks for unity among Canadians every Canadians should vote for the redefination of marriage because it will provide legal protection minority or for same-sex couples and give same-sex marriage a full legal status in Canadian law as for any other type of marriage.

Before proceeding to Gyanendra's past let me once again explain that whatever good or bad his past was, we must not assume that his intentions at present are bad for the country and the people. After thorough discussion, we can come to some sort of conclusion about this question. But still time will tell, as he starts putting his plans to action, if his present actions are intended to solving the problems or just wanting to rule according to his will.

Why should anybody care about when did Ganendra went for "shit" or when he "farted" ?

Why should and will the Maoists (if they ever consider for talks) ever care at all about his resume that is totally irrelevant ?

Gyanendra, as the brother of a King did not have direct role to play in the politics of the country. So he is better known for his roles played behind the scenes to safeguard the interest of the Royal Palace.
He was still young when King Mahendra sacked the elected government of BP Koirala in 2017 BS. But from his early teen he witnessed the creation of partyless panchayat system and was grown up enough to make his own idea about the developments of political activities when Panchayt took it's roots in a wider level in the whole country in the years after 2021 BS. The Nepalese society was not like today some 40 years ago. Very little portion of the country was literate. Developement was at it's primitive stage(still not much better however). People were not politically conscious(still far away from reality).MOdernisation of society, media and communication , almost everything was quite different then what it is now. Politics was by far centred in the capital, and in the hand of very limited number of elites who influenced a big chunk of society. And there was a big god-like respect to the King. People respected King and believed on him. Therefore Panchayat at the beginning raised hope to the public and strengthen. Movements like Gau Farka, Laws and acts like Muluki Ain, building up of local bodies and infrastructe like gau panchayat and nagar panchayat, starting of construction of Siddartha and Mahendra highways etc gave a fresh hope to the people and Panchayat system got foothold in some ways.
Gyanendra witnessed all these events as a young prince and this must have made a positive impact in the youth mind of him

I will come to your point. First lets know who Gyanendra is?

Not as a heir to the throne but as the second son of King Mahendra, he grew up in the palace and saw Panchyat growing up with him.
It is said that Gyanendra was different in behaviour to his elder brother. Not as educated, not as moderate, not as liberal, not as democratic as Birendra.
He toured some parts of the country with his brother in his twenty's and got married to the sister of his brother's wife. I mean shared many things with King Birendra. It is said that Gyanendra was relatively cordial and disciplined then the youngest brother Dhirendra so Birendra opted to share some part of his politics to him.
Visibly he was given the responsibilty of Mahendra conservation trust to safeguard environmental issues of the country and promote tourism. But as Birendra was busy with the nation's politics, he was the one to handle business interest of the royal palace as well as promote palace's political interest from behind the scenes.
He had to visit various countrys of the world, specially Europe, as the 'samrakshak' of Mahendra trust and in the mean time developed relationships with european monarchy and governments.
He also started various kinds of businesses as well with the direct support of the palace.

Whatever may be the truth, but King Gyanendra is said to be one of the royals to develope the political career of Surya Bahadur Thapa who goes on to become prime minister for 5 th time in a period of some 4 decades.Surya Bahadur thapa in support of Gyanendra was said to be able to mastermind the defeat of democratic alliance in favour of 'Sudharieko Panchayti Bebastha' in the referndm of 2036 BS.
In the mean time, Gyanendra, not as much in the scale of his younger brother Dhirendra, however developed some kind of feud with Queen Aishworya on the family business and that continued for the rest of the time.
AYWAY HE WAS VERY MUCH RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPRESSING THE EFFORTS TO ACHIEVE MULTI PARTY DEMOCRACY till 2046 when King Birendra decided to accept the peoples quest for democratic (at least freedom of Speech) rights.

When democracy was finally granted, Gyanendra had his resentment. Aishworya was unpleased too. But Birendra did not want bloodshed in the country. Nepal was hardhit by India's sanction so he gave up which prompted feud amongst the courtiers and within the palace.
However the palace did as much bickering as it could to put it's authority in the constitution of Nepal 2047. A couple of drafts were ammended several times before the final publication was mae and the Monarchy pressurized as much as it could to put clauses that gave the largest authority to the King although the theme of the constitution was a constituional monarchy. The constitution of 2047 was in itself flawed and it was foreseen from there that the palace would act to its vested interest on the back of those flaws. They were just waiting for their favourable time so that they can twist and misuse and misguide the provisions of the constituion of 2047.

Then came Girija and 12 years of failed democracy with him. The palace watching like a spectator taking note of the incompetence of political leaders. It wanted more mess from them so that palace could intervene at will one day. The parties and politicians just did what the palace and the insiders wanted to see.
Moreoever maoists came into the fore.

There is no evidence to support the allegations that the Palace and specifically Gyanendra or Dhirendra or both of them initiated to start the Maoists problem. Specially what from what we see today, we cannot be sure that Gyanendra was responsible in one or the other way to instigate maoist insurgency in Nepal.
But we cannot totally ignore this suspicion. Things will be clear from the developments in a few months time.

In the mean time, Gyanendra was worried with the behaviour of his son Prince Paras. He was about to eclipsing the notoriety of Dipendra in his early youths by beating and bullying people at discotheques, driving madly at people and so on. Birendra was pressurized to put off paras's royal status after the public outrage on the incident that took singer Pravin Gurung's life(Resham Firiri). so on Paras matter also, there was a big feud going on in the palace.

Then all of a sudden, the Royal Massacre ocured. God knows the truth. But King Gyanendra avoided the death party. His entire blood survived. His wife, son, daughter, close aid- Dr. Shahi and all survived. but Birendra's no trace of Birendra's blood survived. 'Deependra killed everybody and himself'. Whatever be the truth but this massacre is also not a totally revealed truth. You cannot be sure that what was told about how it happened is the real truth. Neither you can rule out that possibility because nothing is impossible.
But we can think that a man who was a King in the age of 4 must have some ambitions to sit on the same throne once again in life. Still a thought. We are more wrong to this judgement then right because what we see is a truth. what we don't see may be a truth but we cannot be certain without a proof. There's not a trace of proof to support this arguement.

If there was conspiracy from the present king against his brother, then that was the most shrewdly and effectively staged conspiracy in the world. More cleverly staged then the sept. 11 attacks on the USA. Far more clever conspiracy then the current one in which he has been able to cut off a landlocked country from the rest of the world as if Nepal is the worst hit country hit by the tsunami and isolated from communication.

Now I will be writing my assement on the last 2 and a half years of Gyanendra's reign and explore what prompted him to plot a coup. Yes, This is a coup no matter his real intentions are for the betterment of the country.

Looking at the present scenario what are the best possible options; go all out against the monarchy once an for all, give the king the benefit of doubt and wait for three years he has asked for; toe the same mob violence and riots as dictated by the equally if not more responsible so call misguiders of democracy.
However, regarding the palace massacere that was a big blow but if a king and prince do not know conspiricy against them and fall prey to it, well, well how could they have protected the rest. For Paras's misadventures that may be one chink in the armour which will compell the king (if he has any other intention) to restore back the rights of the masses. Till then, as the king said the country is in my responsibility now, hope new generation leaders will come up and say ok now our shoulders are strong enough to take over the responsibility from you, thank you for restoring peace and bringing in order a system of corruption free govermence and opportunity for everyone regardless of caste, creed, religion, gender, social and economic status and ethnicity to participate in the nation building. Thank you for safeguarding the national identity and national interests and initiating sustainable development in all sphere of life of the common man. I hope this day will come sonner the better, in the next few months, years not beyond that.
The risk taken to bring the house in order is pretty high, and failing to achieve the objective and ill intentions will only led to addition of one more chapter in the history of Nepal. In this circumstance, I feel the king should be given a benefit of doubt and his achievements and moves monitores and assisted where ever necessary to achieve the common goal and at the same time responsibility and power shifted from his shoulder to those of the real representatives of the people.
In the meantime the censorship and blanket restriction on communication and other basic human rights should be immediately restored back and replaced by best alternative way to restore law and order in the country. The maoists should also decide what they want to do, one time they say they want to talk to the king next they say no; say and do the same thing not change stance like Makuni. If an all out war is the best option, then also draw the line between do and don't of the rule of the war and fight in the right sprit like Mahabharata. Being KaleKrishna (albeit a Kaliyugi), I will always side with Dharma and righteous, hence those sakunis and others conspiring beware sudharshan can fly any time.

Your ideas is very appreciative. Thats the best thing to happen if King Gyanendra translates our expactations into reality. He has the power and authority to do it. But we can't be sure if he has the will. Anyway I'd like to put more of my ideas and analysis(thoughts rather) in the next thread. Right now, I am busy with my job. Back to the topic. But before continuing the past of Gyanendra let me put my understanding of the events taking place in Nepal for the last 4 days.

Day 1. some displeasure that the democracy earned at the cost of hundreds of martyrs life has come to a premature death.
some hope that the King will by hooks and crooks, imposing restrictions, increasing armed operations crush the Maoist rebellion and take actions against corrupt leaders and after bringing normalcy in the country pave the way for democracy and elected government.
Day 2. King Gyanendra announces his cabinet constituting infamous manadales, bhrasta communist and oppurtunists. rays of hopes fade.
Day 3. Shooting incident in Pokhara no coverage, no explanation from the government. Signal of the beginning of despotism.
Day 4. Army chief Pyar Jung Thapa suggesting that an armed offensive against the maoists is the only tactic to be implemented.

First, whatever comments India and USA have expressed against the King's move, it seems clear that they have given their support to him internally. Shameful George Bush promised to end the world from tyranny in his state of the Union address, but he wants more chaos, more bloodshed in the world. He wants to expand his arms and ammunitions market to encourage Gyanendra to start a full fledged bloody war in Nepal. If there had been no commitment to Iraq, Bush would have started to bomb Iran. WHo knows? He may accomplish his mission against Iran in the second term of office.

India, the oppurtunist wants to see the Royal Nepal Army unable to handle maoists rebels and then send its army as a gesture to the King but secretly to guard the water resources of Nepal. Whoever so called analysts think that India will not interfare militarily to Nepal do not realize the fact that a batallion of Indian army is stationed at Kalapani from decades inside our own border.

Gyanendra has got the support of the international players. Otherwise he would not have continued to cut off cummunications for so long in the country. Well, ok this cutting off cuts the means of communication of the Maoists. Agreed. But why to impose restrictions on the free media? At least media had highlighted the atrocities committed by the Maoists also. Now who would tell abt the killings done by the maoists all around the country. How would the public know about the killing of innocent civilians in the name of Maoists without those media? How would you know that laders amassed millions of rupees through corruption without a free and investigative media and journalism fuctioning freely? Because of the fear that media will report the truthful news of unlawful arrest disappearance and killing of peoples. Because the people would know about their freedom being snatched. Because the public would organise against him.Stupid army people are guarding media house now. Hope the Maoist will not take advantage of this and strike Kathmandu at large.

Gyanendra has no mercy to the grievances of the people. His 4 days of despotic rule has rang the alarm bells. If we do not start our protest against the restrictions on civil liberties right from now, he wll be more encouraged to toughen the bans.

Guys one day, when you get back to Nepal. Let no army kick your ass and confiscate your valuable belongings. Let you not be hit by the gun when you try to protest and explain that you are a student. let no army get into your home and rape your sisters. Army is ruthless, whether it be government or rebellion. See Rwanda, See Srilanka, See Colombia, See Sudan. DO not support Gyanendra, Do not support Maoists. Do not support lier politicians. But all politicians are not lier. Narahari Acharya who has been disappered was never a corrupt politician. he never fought election, he never got involved into controversy but he has been disappeared because he said, the maoists demand of constituent assembly can be discussed, subject of republicanism can be a matter of public debate. So acharya has been disapppeared but one of the Kings of corruption, equivalent to Khum Bahadur Khadka, Bijay Gachhadar, Chiranjivi wagle and Govinda raj Joshi-- Mr. Radha Krishna Mainali has become the minister in the King's cabinet. Expect no good of this satan. Look at his face, look at his eyes. His Ghostly eyes resemble the satan in him. Lets not allow the satan to dance on the plight of poor people. We have got to at least pressurize him to lift bands on some civil liberties including rights to information.

Sorry but in the next one I will only summarize the major events that took place in Nepal in between the last 2 and a half years after gyanendra assumed the throne from a neutral point of view. I am a democratic man and so culd not keep my mouth shut on the bkanket criticism of basic civil rights by the King.Nepal cut off from the rest of the world even in the 21st century. this is shameful for us. i hate this. Hope all of you hate this.
