Nepalis holding foreign passports outside of saarc countries can apply for Nrn citizenship now. It was in the constitution but there was no law until last month. An emergency hold was placed on that law by Supreme Court but again that was lifted 2 days ago. That means now its the law. Nepali living outside dont seem to give big deal about it but it's a huge one for the ones who care. It gives same rights of other Nepali ctzns expect for political and administrative rights.

Great news indeed.
How can NRN obtain Nepali citizenship ? From Nepali embassy or from CDO office in Nepal?

Do you have to provide proof of giving up Nepali Citizenship to apply for dual citizenship or can you now keep the old “bansaj” citizenship you had before becoming a foreigner?

I want to avoid repeat of Lamichhane.

One should be able to go to cdo office with necessary docs and apply for it now. The procedures and required docs are listed on rajpatra.the other group in the bill, the children of birth citizens who were not able to get citizenships before are already reciving actual ctzp. Nrn group is slow and it doesn not seem like there is much info out there about this , as of now.
Raj patra says you have show your renouncement of original citizenship before applying nrn ctzp. It will be a seperate ctzp card and it restricts u from political or administrative rights like other Nepali citizens.
If you wanna look at rajpatra ,there is another thread in sajha about dual ctzp and someone posted a link few days ago.

The excitement shown by nrns is very pathtic on this matter. This impacts everyone living abroad and their descendents for 3 generations at least. Its a big move but there is no news yet by NRNAs or so called leaders of nrn communities and most nrns seem to not care.

ehho2- thank you for the precious information.
So, for applying NRN citizen we have to show renouncement of the original Nepali citizenship.
- how can we show it?
- how to renounce the original citizenship?
Wouldn’t it automatically renounce when naturalised to foreign citizenship?

The child born in Nepal but is now foreign citizen can also get NRN citizenship?

Thank you once again.

Hi Deepocean, i also thought it was redundant because with all the rabi fiasco didnt supreme court established that once foreign ctzp is taken the inherited Nepali ctzp is automatically nulled at the same time?then why ask again if foreign lassport is presented .. But who knows it's Nepali rules.
I think i saw a renouncement of ctzp form at Nepali consulate office website.
It's given up to 3 generations.
We might be able to get more infro from Nepali embassy dc.

Great info guys, keep them coming.

I think you can renounce Nepali citizenship in district administration office in Nepal. You can do at embassy too.

It is quite confusing that they say once you take foreign citizenship the Nepali citizenship is voided automatically then why the need for renunciation.

Do we know if NRN citizenship will allow inheritance of property in Nepal? If not, then it will be just a glorified NRN card.

Mike even nrn card would allow inheritence of property, also it would allow to keep and maintain the land u already owned while you had Nepali ctzp. The limititation of 2 ropanis in ktm ktm is only if u wish to buy new land after becoming foreign citizen.

Nrn citizenship which is far powerful than the nrn card will give you all the rights except of the administrative rights and political rights. Administrative rights meaning you cant applybfor govt jobs.
This is a huge win for NRNs but no one seems to be talking about it. I have been searching and searching for some nrn organizations or some so called leaders of the nrn groups to say something but most of them havent updated their web sites in years. No wonder it wasnt getting approved earlier. I think the birth right citizens group also approved in this bill has a lot to do to get this approved and later while lifting the hold from the supreme court.

NRN card is Waiyat.
We can now get Non Resident Nagarikta (Citizenship) which is like a Green Card of the US... same rights as Citizen but you can't vote or apply for Government Jobs. Non Resident Citizenship is a huge thing for folks that were planning to retire in Nepal or were unsure whether they would return back to retire.

I don't see any use of NRN as an organization, what does it do ? i haven't seen them anything good besides running for NRN elections and showing off their businesses and how much money they have made.

Well said Racheeta. Looks like they are busy campaigning their election and not a single word about this huge accomplishment. Really pathetic.
I do think this is much better than US green card cuz unlike gc this is a citizenship, this doesnt have to be renewed, can be passed down to 3 generations, cant be taken away even for felonies unless the crime is against the national intrest and I'm guessing if Nepal will do like other dual ctzp granting countries then we will get Nepali passport as well.most imp thing is we can sany we are Nepali both legally and ethnically unlike a GC holder who can never say they are a US citizen. I think this is a full fledged dual ctzp with the political and administrative restrictions.

I agree with all of you! I think it is a great achievement for Nepalese citizens who have foreign citizenships. It is not only possible for them to invest in both countries, but they can also move money around to invest in either country!

Out of many NRN organization NRN UK is aggressive fighting to continue Bangsaj ko Nagarikta, NRN UK - Prem Gaha Magar has been actively fighting for this camping, has anyone seen details what rights are given with NRN citizenship, are there any loop holes or hooks that NRNs can get screwed ? they say no political and administrative rights but its not clear beside political and administrative what rights are privileged with NRN citizenship ?

Hi Ajt, i have seen a lot of vids of Mr .Gaha Magar and yes he is very aggressively fighting for the banshaj nagarikta. He was planning on even starting a revolt and stop all remittance to Nepal just like kenyans did few years ago to get their bansaj ko nagarikta.
He was actually against this kinda nagarikta cuz he thought it was like settling for less. There are others who think we should take what we get with the nrn nagarikta for now but continue to fight for same rights are bansaj nagarikta.
After all the constitution says all citizens should be treated equally. But it's Nepal and we could be waiting another 20 years or who knows how long.
The best thing is this is a citizenship. It's no longer a matter of privilege, it's about rights now. Thats the main difference betweenbnrn card and nrn citizenship; privilege vs rights.
We should be pressuring authorities like home ministry of Nepal to make it clear and easy to apply but sadly Nrn groups are busy in their elections looks like.
The Supreme Court removed the hold last thu and so far i couldnt find any info, even acknowledgment about this giant leap for nrns. Some of these web sites still have covid info from 2020/21 like they never bothered to even update all this time.
I have been emailing people as much i can and i suggest all to do the same. Please email these nrn groups to be more active at this time. This is the prime time for us.

Hi Ajt, thanks for posting the vid. I saw a lot of good discussion but for nrn card and not the nrn citizenship. Did i miss anything about nrn citizenship?
Of course this vid was a month old so nrn citizenship was little out of the horizon. I wish group like this would come together soon and make nrn citizenship clear to understand and easy to apply.like i said earlier the bill has passed and it's on rajpatra now, the other group ie, children of birth right citizens have already received their nagarikta in hundreds based on the bill but i haven't seen any info for nrns.everyone still seem to be in nrn card mode while nrn citiEnship is already on the table.

Hi ehho2, from 18-48 min the discussion is based on the draft that was purposed under nrn citizenship law, this video was discussed on drafts before nagarikta vidheyak was passed after rabi lamichane case was pending in court. if nrn nagarikta that is recently passed is same as in discussed draft then i believe there will be no such a thing as advertised like full rights beside administrative and politics, only few benefits added on top of nrn card and i hope i am wrong.

I was looking for info what are new laws that is under nrn citizenship but haven’t found any info so far, and i hope the draft that was discussed in video was modified for better of nrns and nepal.

if you find any documents that explains laws and rights for newly passed nrn citizenship, please share.

Thanks Ajt, i revisited the vid again fro. 18 to 48. MR Narayan does have important info and concern about the nrn ctzp. However, he is taking from the facts that were available a month ago when this vid came out.
Things are different now and in our favor. Now the bill has passed and the hold placed on it has been removed. His concern about other right except from political has been cleared in the rajpatra.

Like he said the "ain" had to pass, now it has since the president signed it and supreme court didnt find any issue about it and it's publishednin rajpatra. Also, like he said nimayabali (sop in english) has to come out following the ain and this is where we need to be more active. I hope mr.Narayan and others are active right now to make nyamabali that is easy to go through.
This is my understanding only and i maybe wrong.
