The massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake that shook our motherland Nepal has resulted in the mass death and destruction. Section 244(b)(1)(B) of the Immigration and Nationality Act of the USA allows for a Temporary Protected Status (TPS )designation if an environmental disaster, including specifically an earthquake, has caused a substantial temporary disruption of living conditions in the area affected such that the country cannot adequately handle the return of its nationals. The government of Nepal has already officially requested for a TPS designation to the government of the USA. Department of Homeland Security and State Departments are working on it, but have not taken any decision yet.

TPS is a temporary form of humanitarian aid that will allow Nepalese here in the United States to efficiently support our home country during rebuilding. TPS would ensure that we Nepalese in the U.S. would be protected from deportation and granted work authorization to continue working.

Let us respectfully request the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to grant TPS. Each of us has to call the office of the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Rocky Mountain Friends of Nepal (RMFN) would like to ask each of you use this script to make a call. The name and state you are residing should be changed. The script reads:

The recent 7.8 Richter scale earthquake in Nepal has affected over eight million people, including, over eight thousand deaths and half million homes. The quake has caused thousands of homes unsafe to return. The situation is going to get worse as the monsoon is quickly approaching. At the same time, thousands of Nepalese living in the United States are not being able to go back home and be with our loved ones in these difficult times. Therefore, I am requesting for your consideration to grant temporary protected status to Nepalese citizens on a purely humanitarian basis.

This is a bit of an overkill. Let's not make a complete fool out of ourselves. Online petitions and requesting Congressmen to advocate on our behalf is one thing, calling DHS and leaving voice messages is just outright harassment -- it's almost like you are trying to bully the US government. Please don't make a fool out of all Nepalese. This is a bad idea, no phone calls please.

If the DHS secretary is a general/common person, then, of course it would have been a harassment, but he holds an office that is, in large parts, answerable to public (DHS can not directly be called a public office since the secretary is not an elected official). Raising our concern to him cannot be a harassment. We, as general people living in the US, have rights to call his office and express our genuine concern on a very important issue. Will it surely help? We don't know, but probably will. Thus, we, as a community in Colorado, thought it as a right way to go and we are, at least, giving a try. We would like to request you all to make a call and help us in this cause.

This is insane. You people are making fun of Nepal. Requesting has its decency , You think they dont know what have happend to Nepal? They do . There might be some strong reason that we dont know of yet not to grant TPS . Will TPS help?? Yes it sure does. Its a good thing if its granted, everyone will be benifitted but will you do what you want to do (Help Nepal) i doubt it . Not Just you, most of us who says we will do is not going to do anything besides donating 100 dollor max.

So why all this? If they have to they definately will hope they will but does this help?? No it wont . We all know US is not a dumb. They play by the rule voicemail is not going to grant us TPS. We have 54 out of 100 senators backing up the bill, they wont let this fizzle out. I still have hope we will be granted TPS sooner or later.

No, I didn't lie in my visa application. What was there to lie? I did tell them I was returning back and at that time, that was the plan - even now that's the plan. I didn't work on gas station or any under the table job. I am not working on any consultancy job.



Asking for a signature on a petition is one thing, asking to make calls - that's pathetic. For what? To help on earthquake relief? Hell no. It's been over a month and now you want to get back? If its not for relief - but for your own status - which I understand, then I might sign the petition but I am not calling Homeland Security for you. Did you help me get my status?

I signed the petetion and I will always do that but tell me one thing in United States that people got from Leaving Voicemail to DHS or WhiteHouse... Seriously?? Do you really think that helps??
I am never against TPS and never will. Like I said on my earlier Post , I wish they grant it but everything has thier own limitations. They are working on it and we all know it. Everything has their own timeframe or process but leaving a voicemail thinking dikka lagera lu jar gari khao bhanera dinchha bhanne soch lai chai .. No a big NO... Cant do that,
