recently have been seeing many interviews and with friend from sajha, can you answer this. Are we the kids from Ashoka's land or are we the kids of Prithivi Narayan's land? What is our identity? Hopefully will get a healthy debate

So Sakhamitra
What do you say about your father land? Was it 235 years old or 2000+ years old?

All chhetri bahuns are facing the same identity crisis these days.

Do not worry. You are not the only one.

I guess if you consider yourself a Nepali first, then Nepal will be your father land. But if you consider yourself a Hindu first, then Ashoka's land will be your father land.

And if you already have the green card or whatever, then start learning about the early settlers.

BTW, it will be erroneous on your part to look upon India as a homogeneous entity.

I would say " I was born and raised in Nepal and I would like to return back someday but I consider myself world citizen and this fighting over religion and land is for the sole benefits of politicians and I am not into it "

Ashime Bro
Thanks for the comment. let's start with my reply
All chhetri bahuns are facing the same identity crisis these days.
Many: Ashoka land belonged to all the people from afganistan to Burma to South of India and in North as far as Nepal so i do not think this is only identity crises for bahuns and Chhetris
.
I guess if you consider yourself a Nepali first, then Nepal will be your father land. But if you consider yourself a Hindu first, then Ashoka's land will be your father land.
Many: Before the quest of Kaling. i agree it  MIGHT have been a hindu country as ChandraGupt left after joining Jain Bindusar there is no record about his much except because of him Chanakya had to die. After Kaling battle he was a Buddhist king and he spread Buddha's teaching all over his kingdom present day Nepal being one so how can we clam ashoka's land as Hindu land
And if you already have the green card or whatever, then start learning about the early settlers.
Many: Sorry bro i am not a green card holder or do i live in US. I have done some reading about early settlers. In kathamandu you will see all the bihars. early settlers were converted to Buddhist and reconverted when Sankaryacharya invaded Nepal.

BTW, it will be erroneous on your part to look upon India as a homogeneous entity.
Many: I do understand that not all the parts of India follows the same culture and customs so does Nepal.
But everyone had settled in Nepal if you call them native or indigenous from the same land. some were driven out by hindus some where by muslims.
so if we look at the whole history wouldn't it be right that we are kids from Ashoka's land born in Nepal?

Intelligent Guy yeah am referring to same Ashoka but not Shahrukh khan's movie because some of the things are fiction eg Ashoka serving on Kaling's prince etc.

Dude I had read and was taught, before even these shah rulers, bahuns, chettris, ashoka, sharukh, even Buddha, Indians, afghanistan, there were Newars( the same descendent of the Tibetans(many will disagree this i know)), , who lived within themselves practicing Saivism(Lord Shiva), that's why Newars call themselves as children of Shiva just as the Americans call themselves people of God IDK why. Newars practice Ajima, parashakti maa, and follow all the hierarchy of Gods unlike the hindus of India and worldwide. Just as the history of India, history of Nepal is old too. The emerging of Buddhanilkantha statue from lake, the Manjushree chopping the Chobhar mountains to let the waters of lake pass so valley could be created. I don't know it's your opinion, I call myself, Nepali, I call myself a descendent of Newar first, I think Ashokaland is way later. That's why i spent most of the time searching for newar Samhita and Newari scriptures to decipher if it's all true. Dude I don't call myself from Prithvi Narayan's land, he is some descendant of India. Forgive me if I'm wrong, we all have our own theories.

prithvi narayan shah was from thakuri race ie, a mixture of khas and magar ethnicity. i dont consider myself the son of ashoka or pn shah,u dont have to. i dont think that ashok ruled over all the himalayan states during his reign. but it is for sure that aurengzeb ruled all of hill kingdoms through rajahs .so u may call urself kids of aurengzeb.
and newar is a community of aryans, dravidians and tibetan races who settled down in the valley. hinduism and buddhism both were brought here by bihari rajputs who ruled the valley for 1400 years after the kirats.

Many: You answered genuinely but this dude's job is to provoke.

How many years back you want to go ? Human Origin is Africa. Are we African Nepali? Then we  may be related to Obama.
Why you worry about migration specially India? if you go back 4-5 hundred years ago there was no India.
Every one was migrating depending upon their situation.

In 21st century you are talking about 4-5 hundred years ago's migration and trying to label INDIAN ?

Other than ethnic people most of us migrated to Present NEPAL, If it was not united you would be no more Nepali but BIHARI INDIAN.

My little two cents:
If you look back to history, we all came from middle east. Since we are Aryans. If you look further more, we have same descendant from Europe as we are all Aryans. Even before that, they say we all came from Africa where the evolution started.
Now to the point, India was never one India before recent times. It was divided into many small states. But they are called in old days India pranta or Indian zone. So, that pranta consists of various group of people living. They include from Afganistan, Pakistan and other countries.
Saying that where we came back does not matter. Since my ancestors were all born in Nepal. Donot now since when my ancestors were in Nepal.
That said we are all Nepali before anything and we have a country named Nepal. We should all think about our self as Nepali.

Gonecrazy,

when you say India prant or indian zone, I hope you mean भारतवर्ष or भारतीय उप-महादिप or Indian Sub-continent.

And, there have been many 'laspas" between people from different origin, so you can't say without error who is descendant of what ethnic group. I think most of the nepali jati (at least that fall under hindu barnashrarm today) are mix of Aryan who migrated to indian sub-continent from Europe through middle-east AND the Aryans who migrated to karnali Pradesh (called 'khas' mostly in recent past) from central asia/Europe through western Tibet. And people believe that there must have been enough marital exchanges between mongols from western Tibet and traveling Aryans from central asia so as to make khas settled in Karnali Pradesh a totally different ethnicity compared to relatively pure Aryan who migrated to the indian sub-continent.

shiva-linga,
....but you may know that ruling thakuris do not believe that they have some khas or mongol elements in their ancestry. It is actually a part of officially acknowledged history that thakuris are pure rajputs directly from india. The irony is that many thakuris in villages in districts in 'western development region' , who are authentic descendants of kulmandan shah, practice the 'mama ko chora /chori bibaha'. That practice is prevalent in magar and gurung community. Also, a pure Rajput is not allowed to drink liquor whereas it is permissible in pure khas.

You are right. I mean indian subcontinent.

Although we may have come from different origin, my point is we are Nepali.

HighFlying Eagle i disagree completely Please do read my answer below.

Dude I had read and was taught, before even these shah rulers, bahuns, chettris, ashoka, sharukh, even Buddha, Indians, afghanistan, there were Newars( the same descendent of the Tibetans(many will disagree this i know))
Many: Bro you are living in dissolution. I agree some Newars are Descendant of Tibeteans but that were long after Nepal started doing business with Tibet. What are you talking about? If Newars were Tibeteans descedant then who the hell are Bajhracharya, Gurvacharya, Joshi, Singh, Manadhar, Shahi, etc.
, , who lived within themselves practicing Saivism(Lord Shiva), that's why Newars call themselves as children of Shiva just as the Americans call themselves people of God IDK why.
Many: so you are basing that being shiv bhakta you are descendant of Tibeteans?
Newars practice Ajima, parashakti maa, and follow all the hierarchy of Gods unlike the hindus of India and worldwide. Just as the history of India, history of Nepal is old too. The emerging of Buddhanilkantha statue from lake, the Manjushree chopping the Chobhar mountains to let the waters of lake pass so valley could be created.
Many: you are quoting here from Buddhist text. And Buddhism was spread to Tibet from Nepal during Business travels. If you look at Hindu text It was Krishna who chopped the chobar hills so his followers Gopal (gothalo) have a place to stay after destruction of  Dwarika. They were the first settlers of Kathmandu valley with a capital at Bhaktapur. so if you are Gopal then too you came from Gujhrat.
Many: tell me dude in what script is Newar Samhita and Newar Scriptures are written? you will get your answer.

Ma Gorkhe bro

Many: You answered genuinely but this dude's job is to provoke.
Common Dude what is a provocation. you need to have healthy debate about these stuff. I haven't offended any one. but i do not pick up a copy of mahendra mala and sing hati hoina dati ladne or hami Nepali etc Panchayat songs.
How many years back you want to go ? Human Origin is Africa. Are we African Nepali? Then we  may be related to Obama.
Many: If we go there too wasn't indian subcontinent a different land mass that moved from africa and joined with Asia hence the Himalayas? so if there were people then which i highly doubt wouldn't they move with the land so that means we are kinds from the same land.
Why you worry about migration specially India? if you go back 4-5 hundred years ago there was no India.
Many: Please correct yourself i haven't used India i have said land of Ashoka.
Every one was migrating depending upon their situation.
Many: I agree no doubt about it

In 21st century you are talking about 4-5 hundred years ago's migration and trying to label INDIAN ?
Many: Who is trying to label Indian. even if you look maps before 1858 it was known as Hidoostan. Didn't Chandra Shamsher tried to take the term Hindoostan saying we are the real land of hindus so we should be called Hindoostan and not Gorkha Empire.
Other than ethnic people most of us migrated to Present NEPAL, If it was not united you would be no more Nepali but BIHARI INDIAN.
Many: Every Body has migrated to Nepal can you imagine when the Indian Sub continent was in the process of joining Asia and Himalayas were being born do you really think people used to live there? what kind of debate are you giving me?
