Friends, last weekd I took citizenship oath of a new country I am living in. They give me new passport, while I handed over Nepalese passport they said I can have it. I said as a Nepalese citizen (not anymore, feels emotional) I cant have two passports but they said they have no problem having me dual passports unless Nepa takes action.
I cam home with both the passports. I dont know what to do? Should I inform embassy here or I just keep Nepalese passport secretly? Malai mero desh ko dherai maya chha, ra pachhi gayer deshko lagi kehi garne ichchha pani chha. I think I can still do many things for Nepal if I want, acquiring foreign passport does not stop at all. I took this citizenship because it makes my life much easier and anyway I will be spending at least next 15-20 years here. I am 29 now.
I am just wondering, at one point its all illegal to have Nepalese passport on the other hand, I consoled myself saying that its ok, its harmless. what to do?

Nepal doesn't want traitors like you. No need to keep the Nepali passport. Throw it in the bin if you'd like.
And do us a favour, do not come back.
Good riddance.

Ashishme, I understand your sentiments but there is big difference in being Emotional vs Practical. i chose the later.

Beg to differ.
What has practicality to do with being a traitor?
Patriotism is all about emotion, bud.
Just don't come back. That's all we are asking.

First the practical things: The right thing to do is to surrender your Nepali passport. Having said that, the right thing to do might not always be the best thing to do for you. I have friends who still keep passport from both countries and there are few who have surrendered Nepali passport. If you stay under the radar, it shouldn't be a problem and it actually might help you in the immigration process whether in Nepal or US. Also, if you have "purkhyauli sampati," it makes sense to keep the passport, otherwise surrender for peace of mind. Now about being a traitor: You are doing a great service to the country than the so called Nepali citizens who are sucking on her blood. You also seem to have a will to do something good for Nepal, kudos...your Nepali is reflected in your heart not your passport.

Practical thus defined would also validate the action of a person who sells his own daughter to a brothel or a whore house. After all, it does bring in the money that will keep the rest of the family alive, doesn’t it? Practical?
Practical thus defined would also validate your action should you choose to sell your own mother for financial gains. Practical?
Being practical is no justification for immoral, unethical and criminal actions. And it definitely is no excuse for TREASON.

What are you tripping on Ashishme? Frequenting Colorado too much these days?
How is renouncing a citizenship a treason, a criminal act?? Every person has the right to chose his affiliation, his citizenship. I actually would wish many of the corrupt officials in Nepal would give up their citizenship; that wouldn't be treason but a good thing for the country.
And since when did you become the authority of unethical-immoral issues? How do you define it? If I ask my bible friend, homosexuality or worshipping other Gods are both immoral and unethical. They should be banned then?

Passport_holder,
Don't mind some folks like ashishmee. Some people think you did a right thing while others will condone you. All that matters is what you think about it. You choose a step that is right in your eyes and thats all it matters.
I bet it will be an emotional period to renounce the citizenship of the country you were born. You dont need Nepali citizenship to love Nepal. Don't forget your roots and make sure you pass them to your kids. I wish you all the best and good luck !!
p.s~ This song applies to all folks who left the country.

I wouldn't give up my Nepali citizenship. It is illegal to do so but if you didn't go walking around, telling everyone about you acquiring US Citizenship, you're good.
Also, did I read it right? You're planning to live in Nepal for the next 10-15 years?

You can hold on to your Nepal passport. It is perfectly legal to do so. You cannot use both as Nepal does not allow dual citizenship, so holding on to it is fine as you would not use it anyways. For example, if you went to Nepal on a US passport, you will have to return on that same passport.
It only becomes illegal if you use it. In future, when you decide to revert back to Nepali passport, the process will be easier for u.

We live in an increasingly global world. Our actions are largely dependent on what's personally better for oneself. You live in a small village in Nepal, and if you get good job in Kathmandu then there's nothing wrong with moving to Kathmandu for a better life for yourself. Specially when the government is not doing it's job and not creating any opportunity for you to have a better life in your village.
You work in Ktm and if you get a job offer in India for 20 times what you are making then there for your personal progress you take the job and go work in india so that you and your family can have a better life than staying in Nepal.
Working in another country does not make you any less of a Nepali.
Only retarded peole like ashishme will question your patriotism, which is not even in question here. Your country is run by murderers right now, are you going to be loyal to them or for your own personal freedom, to provide better life for your family? It's not even a question.
After living in US for 15 years, I had spent 50% of my life in the US and in order to be able to live a hasslefree life here, it only makes sense to become a citizen here, although the love for Nepal is still near and dear for me. I am still a Nepali by birth and noone can take that away from me.

Well said illumination... Living aboard and getting passport of some other country does not make you less Nepali. We all are citizens of this "Planet Earth". Be happy where you live.

Changing citizenship is legal. Selling your daughter is not.

My understanding is that the day you accept the second Nation's citizenship your Nepali Citizenship is automatically revoked. Now, some of you might have been under impression that as long as i have my nepali Passport i am a citizen but not according to the Nepali Law. Once you accept foreign citizen you are no longer a Nepali Citizen Legally. Lets say you get into the legal battle in Nepal and your nepali citizenship is on question, then they will say the day you became foreign citizen you were no longer a nepali citizen.
I do not know what the proper admin process is to denounce your citizenship in Nepal but i would not be under assumption that just because i am holding a Valid Nepali passport you are a nepali citizen as well. In Spirit you can always remain Nepali but by citizenship you are no longer one once you accept another citizenship.

Freedom2012, by law, it is illegal to hold onto a Nepali Citizenship once you've naturalized in some other country.
