1. No. That is not true.

2.The easiness depends where you are coming. If you are coming to Masachussetts, it is all free.

As an F1 student, you should have insurance, right?  Make sure you add your spouse to the policy.  Since you know you are having a baby, pick the best option with optimum coverage and low deductibles.  I am not sure you will qualify for Medicare as you are foreigners.  So, it is best to have insurance.

You should consider post-partum care as well.  Certain states have free clinic and WIC (Women and Infant Care) program.   You can actually get coupons from WIC to get certain food items for free at the stores.  Check with Health and Human Services office to see what help you can get for your wife and the baby when the time comes.

Just to be safe, there is no need to mention to the airline or the immigration about your wife's pregnancy.  There recently was a bill in congress about not allowing automatic citizenship to the babies born in the US.  I am not sure if it passed and became the law.  I heard lot of Chinese who have valid visas come to the US to have the baby in order to get American citizenship.  So they might be getting stricter on that front.  So best to keep this to yourself during your travel.

Good luck!

1. Pregnant women are not allowed to fly only after 32 weeks into pregnancy, so I think you are fine if you plan to come before that.
2. Having a baby in US is very expensive. I'm not sure if insurance will cover or reject stating "preexisting condition". However, you can apply for Medicaid. If you get rejected you can find some social workers who can help you out. If nothing works out, you can negotiate with the hospital and pay a small amount every months. Hospitals provide some financial aid and you can also apply for that. I don't think bill about the automatic citizenship has passed, and if your baby is born before that is passed, he/she will be covered by Medicaid, so you don't have to worry about health insurance for your baby (after birth).

By the way which state are you coming to? My wife got Medicaid during pregnancy, here in Michigan.

Good Luck

Hey a1b2c3,

We didn't pay a single penny, not even copay. Medicaid paid for everything.

Good luck

You can apply for CHIP in Texas and I believe it covers all medical expenses of expectant mother. You can later apply for medicaid for the baby. Good luck and congratulations!
