Issue #1:

I get absolutely stressed out when I am trying to read Romanized Nepali. Here's an example sentence:

"k6 dai halkhabar? mero pani promotion hun6 hola."
(The above sentence was created randomly)

Ok, I respect folks trying to discuss with Nepali words. But San has added an amazing feature on Sajha called UNICODE. Just click on the Box next to the <.> and you can add texts that miraculously show up in Nepali.

के छ दाई हालखबर? मेरो पनि प्रोमोशन हुन्छ होला!

Now wasn't that much easier to read? Plus you can convey your ideas in Nepali, not some sort of lingo that makes you like a lunatic. I mean once in a while if you want to make a short Nepali comment within your English sentence, it may not be bad. For example, when you are addressing someone, you can just type "San-jee" instead of copying and pasting the Nepali character of "Jee". However, when you are writing paragraphs over paragraphs on a topic, why not sound a little bit more intelligible and actually write in Nepali, instead of this hybrid crap. I mean we're not in 1997 when we had to have Kantipur font installed and people actually had to know how to type in Nepali, because the characters in the keyboard did not match what they sounded like. This is the era of unicode! It only takes a copy and paste.

Issue #2:
Why do my fellow Nepali people iNsIST on TyPING LYK DIZ?

Typing like that makes us Nepali the laughing stock of the world. I cannot emphasize this enough. It is (1) Hard to read and follow, (2) looks ridiculous, (3) isn't appealing to the eye. Why are we making things so hard on others to read? Is it that hard to "Type like this"? Isn't the word "LYK" and "LIKE" one character apart? I tend to run away from conversations online because of this particular reason.

Thanks for listening to my rant and rave about this topic.

Dhanya----धन्यबाद!

doctorbee,

1stly, I never knew it was called romanized nepali. now i do :). The reason i like it is because, sorry to admit, but I am one of the few who can't read the devanagiri script properly. i was never any good at hindi either. so for me, it makes more sense if someone types 'romanized nepali' instead of the unicode.

2ndly, the unicode font for nepali is just too small (or is that typical of all devanagiri fonts). It makes me squint and squinch and takes me forever to get one sentence read. Now while I imagine that font support is limited, until we come out with bigger cleaner spacier devanagiri fonts, there aint anytime I'm going to be switching to unicode to learn.

Also, the 'lyk dis' is caused by a generation gap i assume. give your younger generation room to grow instead of criticizing their lifestyles. whether you like it or not, they are growing up their own unique ways. yamean? ;)

again, coming back to unicode, it is still 'hybrid' in the sense that the translations within the mind are taking place in english. haina ra doctor jee? ;)

just my five-six cents.. :) cheers n enjoy ur long weekend
