I am in OPT status until January 10, 2011. I am planning to join the school from Spring (january) 2011. If I will be admitted in any University, I will receive my I20 before that time (may be in sep/oct), can I still work on my OPT status until, say, the end of December, 2010 (as I am legal to work for 1 year in my opt and I don't want to quit my job until december ) ? I hope you will help me

No. Check with your Intl. office.  Once the new I20 is issued, your OPT is not in effect.   Back when I joined grad school, I had the I20 issued very late (2/3 weeks before classes).  My OPT expired on Aug 18 but had to stop working from Aug 1st as I got a new I20.
