i've got 2007 CBR600. Its a great bike and i highly recommed it. Hondas are known for reliability. Insurance, of course, will depend on your age and driving record. For me, i am paying about 200 dollars per year for jsut the liability. Insurance is cheaper in the states where it snows during the winter as you can only ride so often. Other expenses on bike is up to you. After you get the bike you would invest on some good helmet and riding jacket and gloves. Good helmets starts from 150 up...good jackets starts from 200 up and you can get decent gloves for 50 bucks.Oil changes on bikes are around 70 bucks. Tire life will depend on how hard you ride it....usually around 5000 miles. Safety is upto you. Bikes are lot of fun to ride....just need to learn how to ride responsibly.

Ya i just pay about 200 dollars per YEAR for liability from progressive. I live near chicago, IL. If you finance the bike though, you will have to take the full coverage which will obviously cost LOT more. Also in colder states, anytime from now until march is the best time to purchase the bike coz they are cheaper during off season when their business is down. If you buy a brand new bike, besides the tax they will also charge you a 'prep fee' which is usually around 500 bucks. And also i wouldn't recommend going for bikes more than 600 cc. Trust me 600 is powerful enough. Keep in mind that all the bikes use Premium gas.

The best way to find out the cost of insurance for ur bike is to call ur insurance company and have them quote it b4 u buy it, all they need is the year, make, mileage and kind of insurance u need. My quote was $150/yr with liability only for XR-650. I don't yet have a bike.
