i attended an orientation at a college in North Houston. It was full of threats by ICE 'n college staffs about maintaining f1, working off campus 'n bla bla bla... language they use was not friendly 'n it was unprofessional. The majority of the students in the class were nepali. They even told students to keep clean, take shower daily, keep distance, americans like this like that 'n so on
So how appropriate do u guys think, teaching a college students to take a shower daily, do laundry regularly 'n even not to eat garlic? isn't that arrogant? isn't that disrespectful to internatinal students 'n their country? especially if u r referring to a mass of students where majority are from the same country. Is it important for colleges to call ICE officers to warn students of possible deportation or penalties if they don't maintain f1?

Why did they say that? Nepalese themselves have the answers.

Ha ha.. I think this is hillarious. Yes, it does sound a bit awkward to be at the receiving end of that speech but I have to admit I have seen more than my fair share of fellow Nepalese who could use a course in common etiquette and personal hygene...

I think the working part was a required part of orientation.  In many cases many internatioanal students come from  a very different cultures, thus a brief explanation of what is observed in US can be very helpful. The bathing part, laundry might have been such a intent. I myself had to take a entire 2 credit course in US Cultures. It was a requirement when i came here. Nepal bata dherai students haru aauchhan so most of us know what to expect here, but its not the case for everyone else. We had a student from Russia who when a cop here pulled him over, got out of car and tried to approach the cop when he should have just remained in his car. The cop simply drew his gun and took him to the station. So a bit of education on the American Way of living wouldt hurt I thnk.

Ya, It seems too much but you have to digest, if you are from third world country. Regarding ICE, they know that why so many nepalese students are in that university, it's not due to  quality education but for availability of  ofcampus work.
