I lost mine wallet with SSN few years back and went to SSN office to get it but couldn't get it 'coz they told me to bring the proof of employment. They gave me a sheet of paper that says the following numbers belong to me. But they didnt issue me the card. If you are on OPT and working legally then just go and ask for the job letter and take it the SS office and they will issue it otherwise wait until you get a job. If you are working in college you still can get it. p.s. You really do not need the card. Once you are issued the numbers you really don't need the card for anything. Something is already written in it anyway if you are a student, right??

I had lost mine too 3 years back. They issued me a new SSN card. But, When I monitor my credit report, I found 4 different ppl were using my card on AT&T, Comcast, and for Electric company. Neither of the accounts was paid on time, and they were forwarded to the collection agency. Then, I spent a lot of time and money to clear those record from my history. Two of them were removed from my account, and two accounts still exit and investigation is going on. So: you better lock your SSN using lifelock.com--takes 10 dollar per month OR Monitor ur credit history in every 2 months....otherwise you will be in trouble later.

You won't be given another Social security Number. Don't worry they will give you necessary procedures to follow to save your identity. They will help you with the necessary tips to avoid identity theft problems. I lost mine, first i called police and notified them got a police report next i went straight to SS administration office. I filed a complaint and they took it into consideration. Months later i got a letter from Governors office. But cheese, the same day a wise mexican drop my wallet to the nearby Gasstation. The manager called me and i got all my belongings. Months later i got a letter from Governors office.

That is incorrect In case of a lost SS card, you can receive not more 3 cards a year and 10 in lifetime. This is validated information. You have to visit nearest social security office with all your credentials (such as I-20s if any, passport, birth certificates, driver's license et al, if you are an international student request your school for a draft that verifies your enrollment). Granting a new social security card based on documentation you furnish is entirely subjective. But if you are able to furnish at least those in the parentheses, you should be able to get a new social security card. Remember, social security number never changes, you will just get a new card with same number in it. NEVER go to this website, it is fraudulent: http://www.ssnhome.com/?gclid=CLHzxvfr2psCFR9N5QodxC_HAA For authenticated info, visit the following website: http://ssa.gov/

....and yes, as Samosa mentioned, having your social security number exposed could get you into serious trouble.

I got a New SSN card with the same number. Actually they first sent the card on wrong address. I asked them to give me a new number, but they said they cannot change the number. However, somebody might your SSN, so monitor ur credit report periodically...

Hardic, why are you wasting your time here? go to ss office and ask for help. Take action before someone mess up your credit.
