What is the purpose of ANA? i think ana has plundered the name of nepali. instead of promoting nepali culture and nepal it instead promote otherwise. doesen't see ana contributing to the goodwill of nepali society nor promoting greater nepali awareness. folks save your cash and instead donate to the Maiti Nepal org or other charities back home.

Hi y'all! Here is my rant.... Well i have not attended any ANA's though heard and read an abundance of bad reviews from actual goers, especially from last years 'extravaganza,' and thought well maybe people are being a bit too harsh perhaps..(though its understandable u want value for your hard earned cash) Then i saw actual video footages of last years Fashion Show and thought WTF....why would anyone want to pay that amount to watch untrained so called models prancing about on stage fashioning clothes that hardly represented Nepali clothes or culture. The theme was 'A Week In A Nepali's Life'.....well I think ppl do not want to see (and pay for) what they themselves wear in a week! It's something they want to get away from and not think about! No wonder people are pissed (understatement) Plus i did not like some of the music choice during the Fashion Show either...it wasn't runway show music (don't get me wrong, i like to relax quietly in my room listening to Parelima...) nothing to pump the crowd up with..there are many Nepali tunes with some beats and jingles and jangles. They all must be deluded and up their own asses to think they did a good an overall job...they themselves are too busy patting themselves on each others backs and in each others backsides to notice the crowd did not like it. A good organiser should open their eyes and try get as much feedback as possible, however critical it may be and use that information to improve for the next show. End of the day, these are large scale shows and there should be constant improvement each time, being aware and obtaining constructive criticism. I have participated in many cultural shows including fashion shows representing true Nepali culture and music 100%, completely free of charge, so i guess i would say i have some kind of standing to put my thoughts on here. Conclusion: To save some ANA grace, they should get a seasoned organiser who can understand what people like to see to enjoy themselves and feel proud of their heritage, where they're from and deliver it with more elegance and class whilst representing our rich diverse culture at its best!! Ok, that's my two cents and if i offended anybody somehow then do excuse me, this is what i think. Cheerio! - Chakra

ANA is nothing but waste of money. I have been to 3 ANA including1 in my town and it is not worth at all. I would rather take a pleasant vacation and enjoy. ANA is full of drunk teenagers and fight. On top of that this years ANA has lot of political issues going on so extra worst. The event are risk to be around your families as you never know who will throw what over your head during a fight. I have decided not to go to ANA period. If you are new to states and think it will be fun you are mistaken. Use that money to go somewhere else and enjoy and have 10 times fun than you will get going to ANA.Enjoy and have a great summer not going to ANA.

Total agree with Bathroomcoffee. Anyone will have greater fun than the time and money you will spend at ANA. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, MONEY YOU MAY GET BACK BUT NOT THE TIME.

I attended couple ANMA or nepali parties and ANA parties and thought they are just here to make some money rather than throwing new stuffs in their program. And next thing is people just go nuts and fight. Though overall it is fun place after all you will not find any nepali get together that big at all . If they could bring some bands like 1974 A.D. or Mukti and revival or any celebrities that would be plus point. But performance were by local bands and their own creations which kinda made crowd puzzled. Anyway the question to pownder is why the heck they don't take any comments seriously and make some changes in their next programs. Same sh*t every single time makes everybody it's just waste of money and time. I have also gone to watch basketball games and its just so funny. One team scores a lot and other team will have just bunch of kids who are trying to follow rules and learn playing basketball. I heard scoccer was kind of competetive though. I am gonna see program schedules and find out if there is anything new or interesting and try to travel. Otherwise, i am done with same B.S.

People could think and analyze on their own way. For me and my group of frriends of 15, we just ther in ANA for sports, thats football. Had not football included in ANA, we would never been there. We love playing football here in States, as the life is busy and full of stress, we just make a time to play football every week where we meet all our friends. We just meet once a week and then get disperse the rest of week and again at the same palce to play football next week. The ANA plays a key role for us to play everyweek which gives an opportunity for us to bond together every week in practise. We dont care about other things in ANA, we will go play a game and just have fun on the side. But to be honest, we are in ANA because of football only. Yah last year 15 teams in football and all team were pretty good. So, imagine how many people attends ANA because of football... add basketball team, add volleyball team. Almost 1000 people are from Sports and count their supporters and their families travelling with them. Hope they will organize sports nicely.

Lets do something better, meaningful and best of all will make us feel so much better. I have one charities in mind we can help in reaching these exploited children of Nepal. Please refrain from attending ANA and contribute to this organization.
Support for Maiti Nepals Institutional Development Since 1993, Maiti Nepal has been helping Nepali girls and women to regain their dignity and self-respect. They are girls and women who have suffered social injustices and threats: child and women trafficking, domestic violence, child prostitution, and child labor. Maiti Nepal has: - Rehabilitated girl victims of trafficking by providing them with an education, counseling and a safe home.
- Encouraged women to be financially secure by teaching them income generating skills.
- Created awareness among the people and policy makers about girl trafficking, child prostitution, and child labor.
- Established Prevention Homes giving non-formal education and
income generating skills to women and girls vulnerable to trafficking. - Established five Transit Homes in border areas to prevent
girls from being trafficked. Former trafficked victims are counseled, trained and placed at the border to identify pimps and, with the assistance of local authorities, prevent potential victims from being taken across. - Initiated and coordinated cross border interactions between
government officials, social workers, and NGOs to prevent girl and woman trafficking. All this has been possible through the genuine concern and sincere support of friends and organizations from all over the world. Maiti Nepal is committed to carry on this crusade for many years to come. Maiti Nepal looks forward to your continued support for many years of positive intervention against inhuman social crime
Looking ahead, Maiti Nepal wants to strengthen its institutional infrastructure by enhancing the capabilities of its human resources. Being institutionally strong means more efficient, effective and far-reaching services to the grass-roots people. Maiti Nepal wants to develop a strong human resource base in the villages and target areas where girls and women are vulnerable and at high risk of being trafficked.
To meet this objective Maiti Nepal has started the Maiti Nepal Endowment Trust Fund: - Contributions for the fund will be directly deposited into a Fixed Deposit Account.
- The contribution itself will never be used.
- Only the interest generated by the fund will be utilized to
develop human resources within Maiti Nepal - training and skill enhancement courses to be able to better cope with the growing demand for Maiti Nepal's intervention and assistance.
Maiti Nepal will very much appreciate your contribution made in following details: Bank Details | Bank a/c No.: | 01-0184012-51 | Name of Bank: | Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Limited | Adrress: | Kantipath, Kathmandu, Nepal | Swift Code: | SCBLNPKA | Name of beneficiaries: | Maiti Nepal Endowment Trust Fund | The Board of Trustees will personally acknowledge all contributions. All contributors will be kept informed about the decisions of the Board of Trustees of the fund. Thank you for your continued support and good wishes. ANA in my view is give and take situation. I have been to every ANA for the last 7 yrs, played basketball football and represented my state. for me the fun part was meeting frens from all over states and hanging with them. Partied with them. Met new gals and guys it was really fun. Is it worth is after 7 anas - may be. Is it expensive -hell ya! People outside are better dressed than the models. Fashion show has a long way to go. Models are short, stumpy and less than average looking.....so no go for me. Dance party is fun but music is usually worse than average nepali parties (too many djs spoil the party) I usally am there 2 hrs towards the end. Games - I go as attend or play as much as possible. Room parties are the fun too...besides I like to hang out in the lounge with cold beer and meet frens. Baltimore was a disaster. So I hope ana la will do better...if airfare comes to 250 with taxes from east coast I am there....
