Hi frns,
I have a tourist visa valid until 2012 September. Im planning to visit USA sometime in January. Can i change my visa status into F1 while im in USA. I have a bachelors degree from European University and I can find the US university offer letter as well.
Advise me whether its good idea to change the status in USA.

I am not 100% sure, but I don't think you can change your status from tourist to student in the US. They will tell you to do it at your home country.

You'll have to be outside of US to get a new or change status to F1 visa. However, there might be some special situations, which I'm unaware of.

Well, it used be ok before 1998, but it is changed lot then so I am not sure either. I think you can find it out by asking your university in which you are going to study. Good luck

You can change the status. Although there are regulations requiring visa applicants to declare 'intention to study in the US' at your visa interview which lets them enter a special citation in the visa; there is no restriction for the change of status. You will be required to show financial sources for the study. Good Luck Santosh Giri nepalilawyer@gmail.com www.santosgere.wordpress.com
