KURSEONG, Sept. 25: Supporters of the Indian Idol Prashant Tamang staged a protest rally in Kurseong today against alleged derogatory remarks passed by a radio jockey against Tamang.
"The comment was in bad taste and has hurt the sentiment of the entire Gorkha population," said Mr Pradip Pradhan, secretary of Prashant Fan Club, Kurseong.
Thousands of people took to the streets shouting protest slogans against the alleged derogatory remarks passed by the radio announcer.
The radio jockey has reportedly apologised for his remarks but it has not satisfied Prashant's fans as the particular radio service is not available in these parts. The people are so agitated that there is a proposal for a bandh in the Darjeeling hills from some corners. n SNS
