Namaskar,
Hope you all are doing well.

I wish to travel to Nepal this December. My F1 visa has expired, I am still in school in legal status. Would you say my concern about renewing my Visa from Kathmandu is unfounded? I am really terrified of the possibility of having my Visa rejected. I will graduate soon. But I really want to visit my family.

What is the possibility of the political situation affecting he Visa renewal process?
The 3 months Band ah that could happen, could sure make it hard for people to go give their interview at the Embassy.

Please advise me of what I should do and what you think is a wise decision.
The political situation is rocky, may be more so than usual, with the pending election.
But I haven't been home in a long time, and I dint completely trust the things I read in the news. Every thing I read in the news, I think, makes things much worse than what it really is. But the recent bombing, that is real enough.

Thank you for taking you time to help me.

hey sedif,

I think political situation is not gonna effect that much. the only thing you have to make sure is you apply as soon as you land kathmadu, maybe 2nd day. coz I didn't have enough time. I had 1 month. I went to embassy after 2 weeks. they told me If i want to renew my visa then I have to go through the whole procedure again, but again, the earliest interview date i could get was few days later my flight day. but they told me I can renew visa here in US too.

But, I think going back at this time is certainly not the best choice. I see a very little probability that you come back. but, again it's on you if you can convince that your graduation is soon to come and blah blah.

hope this helps.

Hey Bro I am exactly in the same page like you. But I am not gonna be on the wrong place at the wrong time. So I decided not to go. And I think this is what our best choice is. Because there is no guarantee that we will be able to finish up the whole process again within couples of week.

Hello there,

It all depends on how long you are going to be there in KTM. If you are only visiting for >30 days then I would recommend against it. Strikes are very common these days and you don't want to risk something important like getting a visa. I would recommend going to Mexico or Canada and get your visa stamped before visiting Nepal. Just to put it in reference, I was in Nepal two-three weeks ago. Because of strikes and closures I wasn't able to get my Bangkok visa and had to sneak to the airport at 5:30 AM in the morning (for my 2PM flight).

Be careful and good luck!

Thanks ou all for your help, really appreciate it.

my grades are ok, and now I work as a RA in my department. I can probably get a letter from my department about my tuition waiver and stuff.

I am planning to stay for about a month. I guess I should talk to my folks, and have them get the application forms and all that.

I read somwere in this forum, Sajha, that going to Canada or Mexico is not a viable option anymore. Is that right?
How exactly would one go about doing that? If its an option, I will try in Canada.

Thanks in advance.

I heard that the US embassy in Nepal have made all application forms online so that you can make an appointment for visa interveiw from anywhre in the world. But you have to make sure you be there in the scheduled time. Check their website

Ok, I checked out the US Embassy, following is the only information I have found regarding the general process of renewing VISA.
----
"Renewing Your Student Visa

If you are a current student at a University or college in the U.S. and need to renew your prior student visa, you must apply for a new appointment through Nabil Bank. You should bring to your interview your I-20 or DS-2019 from your current school, endorsed by your International Student Advisor, and transcripts demonstrating your full-time status."
----

They dont talk about any online forms.

Sorry to bug you guys so much, but what would be the appropiate answer for this question.
(form DS-156)

32. Do You Intend To Work in The U.S.? Yes No
(If YES, give the name and complete address of U.S. employer.)

I will finish my studies soon, and I will probably work. But should I say that during the interview?
---
38. IMPORTANT: ALL APPLICANTS MUST READ AND CHECK THE APPROPRIATE BOX FOR EACH ITEM.
A visa may not be issued to persons who are within specific categories defined by law as inadmissible to the United States (except when a waiver is obtained in advance). Is any of the following applicable to you?

* Have you ever been arrested or convicted for any offense or crime, even though subject of a pardon, amnesty or other similar legal action? Have you ever unlawfully distributed or sold a controlled substance(drug), or been a prostitute or procurer for prostitutes?

Yes No
---
^^ What if you have been busted in a party, and there were underage kids drinking in your apartment and you had to pay a fine? Will they have all your record here even if it was years ago and the only "Minor Misdemeanor" ?

Wish I would invoke my 5th Amendment right, if I had any.

As always, I will truly appreiate your advise and insights.
