Hey guys,
I won some hefty sum this afternoon after playing Daily 3 ( Californian lotto ) and because of the amount factor, I couldn't cash it at the store as I'm required to file a claim. My question is, Can I , being a F-1 Visa holder, claim the ticket and get the full amount or would I be better off by asking one of my relatives ( U.S. Citizen ) to file a claim on my behalf?

Congratulations on your winning! Have you already checked with the lotto to see if International Student can claim the winnings? If the answer is NO then you might want to pursue the alternative route of giving the ticket to your relative with GC or some American friend. But before you do that make sure you do some kind of paper work just in case they might change their mind later after claiming the winnings. Well good luck with it.

Even a tourist can cash in on a lottery winning as long as they pay the tax on it.

I won lotto few years back as well. They did not even ask my status when I went cash the ticket. Make sure to take your ID with you.
Enjoy it, but dont spend it all.

Don't worry, I won lotto few years ago(NOT HEFTY AMOUNT though).....I was worried if I couldnt cash it in becaue I was on F1 status too. Fortunately,they did not even ask my status. Make sure you take your ID with you.

well i dont know it depends here is one intresting story... last time i heard on the FM that radio station organized a sweepstake in chicago.. The winner would get a new car.. and turns out.. an illegal immigrants wins it lol! she claimes it.. but they deny it to her.. thus she argues with them and thretens them to sue the radio station... in returns she gets scared as they would figure out how to deport her.. ..

Thats was the case.. if i were you and an i was dealing with million + $$$ (Sounds good isnt it?) then i would rather take a safer route.. ask someone trust worty.. to claim it.. who is a us citizen.. or a legal resident...

ps: make sure you compensate who ever claimes it..coz they aint gonna get nothing in their tax return.. infact they are goona pay.. lol

Lotto never said illegal immigrants cant cash it..

when u go to the lotto office they gonna ask ur social security.. if u wanna pay tax.. since ur f1. they will imaginary cut the tax out of ur lotto and give the remainin money.. Good luck..
