Does anyone here know for sure how long you have to wait to apply for US citizenship once you get the green card? INS site says around 5 years but I have heard different stories from different people...I am not trying to show off so please save you smart ass comments if you have one.......I would appreciate genuine help.....peace!!!!!!!

After four years and nine months of permanent residence inside the US, you can apply for US citizenship. That means you may apply 90 days ahead of completion of your five years as a permanent resident. http://www.uscis.gov/files/article/M-476.pdf However, if you have travelled outside of the US for more than 6 months (continuously) then subtract those months from the total time of residence.

show off? Who the heck even cares if someone has a GC? Probably the starter of the thread thought he has had a big accomplishment...man, it is all about your heart. I know this supposedly illegal guy from Mexico getting a GC after years of working at the gas station...hopefully you are not the repeat...lol
