getting an SSN is easy with an F1 visa. just apply for one and then apply for a credit card.

I don't think you can apply for a credit card without a SSN because your credit is based on those numbers. Try to get a SS card it's real easy. I believe you know that. But I am positive you won't be able to get one without SS. Take care.

As far as I know there is no other way to get SS card. You have to find one on campus job and get a letter saying that you work there. You said you have been here for 2 yrs, I am surprised why you don't hav a job till now. But dude, This is the only way to get your SS card. All the best.

did u try at tutoring center or sth like tht in ur college. if u maintain a good GPA and can tutor, u can start frm there.. otherwise, apply for a work permit. once u have a WP, then get a job and then apply for SSN thru tht job.otherwise, seek a paid internship.. n apply for ssn. the basic thing is tht ss office look for a legitimate source of taxable income. best of luck

Puzzled life, in my university almost all the labs have one or two or even more undergrads working as lab helpers. My lab has 4 or 5. Here almost every lab has helpers. If you haven't found any other on campus job, then I suggest you to check throught he website of the professors whether they are looking for any lab helpers or you can just go and talk to them. This is the easiest way to find an on campus job, as far as I know. A plus point in this job is that you can learn many things from the lab. If you don't like the job then once you get your SSN you can just quit it. I hope you understand what I said. Best of luck.

Its not easy to get ssn these days. many Nepalese have this problem. My suggestions are: 1. Go talk to some professors about being an assistant. 2. Try to be a tutor. 3. If that dont work out, apply for work permit. You have to have 2 semester in college already to apply for that. Be sure to make strong documents like your sponser financial status has changed. These are the only ways.

As catchangle said apply for the economic base hardship where you can get 20 hours work premit. Talk to your international advisor that you want to apply ECONOMIC BASED HARDSHIP as soon as possible. You have to mention the reason of not getting oncampus job and your difficulties. Thats it, It might take 3 months to get the permit and you will be fine soon. Peace!

Applying for EAD based on temporary economic hardship is the best option. You get Work Permit and take it to SS Administration office and apply for the card. It's real easy. good luck. Tuppi
