Just found this news on web that two Millionaire Indian couple two Indonesian slave in their NY home for 5 years. New York, May 16 (IANS) A wealthy South Asian couple, who run an international perfume business in the US, have been arrested for keeping two Indonesian slaves at their Long Island house for the past five years. The couple, Varsha Mahender Sabhnani, 45, and her husband, Mahender Murlidhar Sabhnani, 51, were detained Tuesday and charged under a federal law that makes it illegal to force someone to work under threat of violence. Both, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The case came to light when one of the women, identified only as Samirah, was seen wandering Sunday morning, wearing only pants and wrapped in a towel. Her face was bruised, and when shop employees tried to communicate with her, she made gestures of slapping herself and uttering what sounded to them like the word 'master', prosecutors said. The police took Samirah to Nassau University Medical Center. With the help of an Indonesian translator, Samirah told them that she and a second woman, identified as Nona, were forced by the Sabhnanis to work long hours, given little food, forced to sleep on mats on the floor, kept hidden when company came and threatened with violence, the New York Times reported. And Samirah said she was frequently beaten up by Varsha. "No one would ever think that human beings were being brought into the US and held for slave labour, beaten and tortured in a beautiful mansion right here in one of the most exclusive neighbourhoods on Long Island," said federal prosecutor Demetri Jones. Prosecutors alleged that the two Indonesian women were beaten with broomsticks, cut behind the ears with a knife, burnt with scalding water, made to walk up and down stairs as much as 150 times in a row, and were once forced to eat 25 extremely hot chilli peppers. Pictures showing bruises and cuts inflicted on one of the women were also shown to the court. If convicted, each of the Sabhnanis face a sentence of 17-22 years in prison. The South Asian couple run a lucrative perfume distributing business from their home. http://mangalorean.com/news.php?newstype=local&newsid=43765

And I thought slavery didn't atleast exist in U.S. Well, wot better can you really expect from uneducated unknown dumb fools. That's intensely abusive, they should get punished for it and thankfully this was found out at time or else those devils would've tortured them to death by now. This seriously disgusts me, like if you're happy with your life, you would never want to do such thing, that's some desperate mourning for HELP by those two. Pyschotic shitheads. :l.

Update on this news from hindustantimes.
A New York couple accused of keeping two Indonesian women as slaves for more than four years were ordered jailed by a federal judge on Thursday after prosecutors argued they might flee the United States.
Varsha Mahender Sabhnani 35, and her husband Mahender Murlidhar Sabhnani, 51, pleaded not guilty in federal court in Central Islip, New York, after being indicted in what prosecutors have called a "case of modern-day slavery."
Prosecutors argued the Indian-born couple, both US citizens, were flight risks because they have relatives overseas and a perfume business that operates in Singapore and Saudi Arabia.
Records of wire transfers also showed that more than $ 850,000 had been sent to Mahender Sabhnani's brother in the United Arab Emirates, prosecutors said in a bail letter.
The couple was indicted on Tuesday on charges of forced labor and harboring illegal residents. They face up to 20 years in prison.
The women, whose identities have not been revealed, were discovered when one escaped and was found several weeks ago dressed in pants and a towel by employees of a doughnut store. She began slapping her hands toward her face and appeared to say "master," court papers said.
The woman was treated at a local hospital for injuries to her ears, face, arms, neck, chest and back that she told authorities were caused by torture inflicted by Varsha Sabhnani.
That included beatings with a stick, scalding hot water, 30 showers to be taken in a row and climbing a set of stairs 150 times within a short period, court papers said.
The same woman also told authorities she was cut with a knife behind her ears and forced to eat 25 hot peppers at once.
The second woman was found by authorities in the home hiding in a closet. Both women were forced to sleep on mats and had to steal food to get enough to eat, court papers said.
The couple brought the women from Indonesia in 2002 and promised to pay them $ 200 a month for housekeeping duties. But the only payment made was $100 a month to the daughter of one of the victims living in Indonesia, according to the papers.
