Prachanda's emotional moment at his birth place
BY UJIR MAGAR & LALPRASAD SHARMA
DHIKURPOKHARI (KASKI), March 12 - She rushed and hugged her nephew Chhabi Lal Dahal, now Prachanda. The hug of Debaki Dahal, Prachanda's maternal aunt, must have
reminded him of his childhood as he was visibly moved by the moment.
Prachanda's visit to his birthplace and in-law's home on Sunday lit the curious faces of his relatives, for whom he was still a child, Chhabi Lal, his childhood name. The house where he was born was dismantled a long time ago, to make way for a planned road.
"Babu (my dear), eat this for a good luck," said Debaki as she handed a glass of curd to Prachanda.
Debaki and her 85-year-old husband Balkrishna Dahal sat by his side and gazed at his face for a while. "Previously Chhabilal, then Pushpa Kamal, and now Prachanda," Debaki said, with a smile on her face.
Prachanda on his way to Baglung from Pokhara had visited his birthplace to see his relatives and in-laws after 15 years. It was a busy day for all the relatives, as everybody came towards Prachanda and gave him blessings.
Prachanda's wife Sita, visibly happy, told her uncle, "You know, you used to say our pairing was perfect and it proved to be true."
Prachanda's son Prakash, who reached Dhikurpokhari for the first time was looking conspicuously nervous. He said, "Namaskar, I don't recognize you all."
Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, who accompanied Prachanda, was anxious to see Prachanda's house. "And, where is your house, Prachanda ji?" asked Dr. Bhattarai.
"Look, it used to be there, but was dismantled in order to construct road," Prachanda said pointing at a black stone.
All the relatives and neighbors continued surrounding Prachanda for a while. Meanwhile, a Gurung woman approached Prachanda and said, "I had seen you on TV, now take this flower."
He along with his family and cadres walked for one-and-a-half hour to reach Dhikurpokhari on Sunday.
"I wanted to visit Kathmandu to see my brother-in-law. And today I am so lucky, you came here," said a 74-year Debilal Poudel, Prachanda's relative through his wife.
All his cadres and family members sat in a queue, very reminiscent of a marriage procession, while Prachanda was busy attending to all his relatives.
A very emotional Prachanda looked at his maternal aunt, elder sister to his mother, and asked, "Oh, you still have that stud on your nose?" He had noticed the stud of his aunt when he was a child.
"You must have heard about the news about a price being fixed for our heads….. Many things happened in the last 10 years," he told his relatives.
