HOW TO BUILD NEPAL FROM GLOOM TO BOOM IN TEN YEARS..lets get your brains working..please comment

Nepal being a superpower? Never.
Gloom to boom? Yes but 10 years are not enough. I would recommend at least doubling up the time frame.

First, Nepalese should abandon the slave mentality. Very well educated to illiterate people, well off to desperately poor- all Nepalese have the slave mentality ( including myself).We think that we are simply not good enough, not capable and that doom is Nepal's only destiny. The illusion that a single person- myself- can't make a difference so why should I bother to behave properly while others are making a mess? is a very pessimistic thinking. Waiting others to take the lead role, waiting others to start the good work. Wishing KG or Girija to develop the country. Wishing China or US or India to help us unselfishly. This is the biggest problem. If you know something better, why don't you do it yourself? Why don't you abide by the general rules and regulations that you follow in the US when you step into the Nepalese soil?
Let's get rid of our slave mentality first.

Second, we should be less selfcentred. Piling wealth for my own family has been the motto of my life(Nepali's life). If a few hundred people contribute some part of their earning for an infrastructure, say a community health centre with 2 GPs, I don't need to send my family members to a nursing home for a quick check up. And it saves thousands of rupees from my saving. Let's invest considerably for our community.

If only the Nepalese living in the developed world behave no differently to what they do in the west when they go back to Nepal, we can make a real difference. We can teach lots of things to those who haven't seen what we have seen. I mean first behave like a good citizen individually and if every citizens do so, we don't have to complain others for the mess in the country. I will abide by the laws, I will not bribe officials to get my work done, I won't use forged documents, I will obey the trafic rules, I will not spit and throw fags and morsels at public, I will just try to follow the etiquette I have learnt, while being in Nepal. Make this your behaviour and things will start to improve.

In politics, if educated people don't support any leader(s) for personal gains, things can improve drastically. We make our political judgement based on personal gains rather than by assesing the rights and wrongs and that makes our politics a shit. Almost all of us support the groups which our dads support. If we can't think differently to our dads, how can we be better than our dads? How can Nepal be better in our hands than before? So this way it goes.

Reform yourself. Behave like a responsible citizen and commit yourself for the good of your country. Support unblemished and result oriented leaders. support the community.
Levy taxes based on income, the higher your income is , be ready to pay more tax. Discourage corruption. Say No to wrong things and don't step back when oppurtunity comes your way to support your community. If this idea clicks, rest assured Nepal will transorm itself from gloom to boom. We are in between the world's top growing economies, If we can facilitate a smooth linkage between India and China, our development doesn't need any industrial revolution.

We had a strong army and relatively strong political stability for 30 years prior to 1990. Look where it got us.

that is how my dad describes the nepali economy. and he says its been that way from time immemorial. ok, he is a newar so before nepal existed, his analysis would have applied to kathmandu. and i believe him.

(a) Corruption should be stopped.
(b) People should be educated.
(c) Roads and means of transportation should be made to each and every district of the country.
(d) Natural resources like water should be used in extrimist.
(e) Nepal being a beautiful country tourisim would be the main income source ,just a peace environment in the country would lead a lot tourist in the country.
(f) Treatymade between Nepal and india or china should be profitable equally to both countries.
(g) And govt should imply people who gets educated in foreign land in scholarships should be back to country to work there atleast for a 5 yrs time or so on.
(h) And all those educated people in foreign land should do atleast a small move that benifits the country and it's people.

Before wishing Nepal to be a superpower, we need to decide on which one:-
1) Military superpower or
2) Economic superpower

In the present context, economy has gained more importance than military might. During the World Wars and the Cold War, countries with strong militarization used to dominate the world, but slowly, credit has moved to economic might. Japan, Germany, China, which are the second, third and sixth largest economies of the world respectively, are influencing the world economically rather than militarily. South Korea, Malasiya, Singapore have risen to be economic tigers from a mediocre state. The gulf Nations, for example, Kuwait, which had mud walls in its capital city in the 60s, has now by virtue of oil resources, grown to be an affluent nation, now having two big towers which hold drinking water enough for supplying the whole Kuwait city.

So, by learning from these, Nepal should choose the economic way rather than the military way. We should focus on uplifting our economy by whatever way possible, be it foreign investment, employment, tourism, etc. International business should be encouraged and new technologies should be introduced.

For Superpowers, economic and military goes hand on hand whichever example you take.
It is not true that superpowers dont have corruption, corrupted leaders and they have all educated people and everything good only.

First of all, I'm glad that somebody brought in this topic coz at least some people think for the betterment of Nepal and Nepalese. If Nepal really wants to be in a powerful society, in my view, she first got to be self sufficient and independent. For that she needs a 100% literacy and a good governance that can make use of this manpower. The last but the greatest point: "Kathmandu" should not be seen as a whole Nepal.

Neither Saddam, nor Bill Gates can make Nepal a superpower.

Need a good highway that connects east to west and north to south. Increases business/employment opportunities, no need to go join moa's movement if employement soars up ^^^^

examples are India and China, both got economical developments only after strong army,
if we will not have stronger army then another rebel group will start, so I do not hate the movement of making strong army, we have to double our army, need a leader who has Economical Head, not a political headed one,

Not before we die... and i don't think it will ever. We don't have any resources except tourism.. and thats also deteriorating each and every day. But i do hope it will be a peaceful country in 10 years.

I do not agree at all.
- Ok, post-war Japan, South Korea, the other tigers and cubs - none were military powers.
- Russia was a big military power.
- North Korea has the world's third biggest army.
- Chinese military is quite weak and they are having trouble doing something about it. The Europeans wouldn't sell them any weapons.

Militarization is not the answer.

those interested in the interplay between economic & military strenght should read paul kennedy's "rise and fall of great powers." it's good, and his central thesis is that superpowers need both. the bling bling k-ching helps grow the army, the navy and what not, and the military might is used to threaten/coerge reluctant trading partners. the book also provides a nice intro to the last 500 yrs of world history.

ok back to the main point here. nepal will never be a superpower, neither military nor economic. it's pretty obvious, so i will not say any more. so hushpuppy, you will have to be content with being empress of a small peaceful country with decent standards of living.

the trade route between india & china is certainly something to think about. will it be the silk road of the new millenium, especially since both india & china are in the WTO? we'll see. but i surely hope that if some shit like that goes down, the nepali NEGOTIATORS are smart folks. at the bare minimum they should undrstand what the hell everyone is talking about. anyway, the economic rise of china and india certainly bodes well for nepal. if nothing else, the sheer Osmosis & regional trade will help the ecnomy. but for now, may lord pashupatinath bring peace & quit to nepal first.

Nepal, one day, will be a superpower... it might take a 100 year or Nepal might not be the only superpower but if even a dog has its day, why not we....? Things might be difficult, but never impossible, if the right approach is taken... If we loose our hopes right now and cease ourselves, we will not succeed..lets get together, keep our hopes up, work towards it, and I guarantee you, that you will one day see Nepal where nobody have ever even imagined to be.... The best strategy: do your best whatever you can for Nepal..

You guys are crazy. Yes the topic was NEPAL being a SUPERPOWER but READ what the first comment was... the topic was just to get your attention!!! People should provide ideas to develop Nepal economically and socially. Of course being militarily strong gives leverage during negotiation but to become a Superpower is not the aim. or is it not?
