Former Nepal crown prince Paras Shah held in Thailand for damaging property

Nepal's controversial former crown prince Paras Shah has been detained by the Thai police for smashing a hotel room in a downtown area here, days after being arrested and bailed on drug charges.

Shah, known for his playboy image, is accused of destroying property at the hotel in central Bangkok in May.

A Phuket Court on Monday had asked Shah to report for a month's drug rehabilitation treatment at Bang Jo Prison in the resort town after being found guilty of possession of marijuana.

Shah never made it to Bang Jo, complaining of chest pains the following day and went to a hospital in Phuket.

Police then told him that an arrest warrant had been issued against him in Bangkok for smashing a hotel room in Sukhumvit area, causing two million baht worth of damage, Phuket News said.

Police has let him out on bail.

He was flown to Bangkok and taken to Thonglor Police Station here around midnight on Tuesday, to answer the charge.

The Phuket Court has now ordered him to report for rehabilitation at Bang no next week.

Shah became heir to the throne in 2001. Nepal abolished its monarchy in 2008.

PHUKET: Nepal’s former crown prince Paras Bir Bikram Shah Dev was transferred to Bangkok on December 4 to face charges at Thonglor Police Station, the Phuket Gazette was told.

A senior officer involved in the case, who asked not to be named, told the Gazette that Mr Shah was transferred to Bangkok at 10pm on Tuesday night.

“He was sent to Thonglor Police Station because a warrant had been issued for his arrest in relation to a charge of causing property damage,” explained the officer.

Mr Shah was arrested at a condo unit in Cherng Talay on October 23 after police officers found him in possession of 3.4 grams of a substance they believed to be marijuana.

After spending that night at Cherng Talay Police Station, he was released on bail.

“After he has answered to the charge in Bangkok, he will be transferred back to Phuket,” the senior officer replied,

“However, as the Phuket Provincial Court deemed the Phuket charge to be a minor offense, the court has ordered Mr Shah to report himself to the Bang Jo Detention Center after two months to be tested for drug use.

“If the tests prove that he has not taken any more drugs, he will have the right to appeal the charge,” the officer said.

An inspector at Thonglor Police Station confirmed to the Gazette today that Mr Shah arrived at the police station late on December 4, but was released on bail shortly after his arrival at the station.

The officer declined to provide any further information about the case.

No matter what anyone says about Paras he is one handsome man. He has the money he can afford to break a few things here and there. Not like some of you who can complain about each and every darn thing.

That picture of him in TV resembles late Birenda, only a little hippier and wasted.
